BGE Appearing at October GTCCA Meeting

Residents are encouraged to get their questions to their neighborhood representative.

Baltimore Gas & Electric officials will field questions about power issues at the Oct. 18 Greater Towson Council of Community Associations meeting.

The utilities company faced criticism following its response to severe thunderstorms in June that left many area residents without power for days, and its plan to raise rates.

In an email, Councilman David Marks urged residents to get their questions to their neighborhood representatives serving on the GTCCA. The list of members can be found on the community group's website.

The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. at Pickersgill Retirement Community.

I asked BGE why areas around Towson Estates were without power 5 times for extended periods this year. Workers informed me it was our antiquated transformers. The letter I got was pretty snarky and said that the transformers were not bad and that the extended outages were due to the magnitude of the storms. Well, one wasn't a storm, just real cold. Aside from the derecho and early June tornado, the other storms were minor. Before someone comments about how we all need to just deal and anything about life before electricity, I pay $300 some a month for electric service. When it has gone out, it has been out for extended periods - days, a full week. The surrounding neighborhood area never goes out, which leads me to agree with BGE's workers that it is our very old transformer that looks like it has been on fire a few times. I wish BGE would provide better service. If I could get solar for my house or a turbine, I like to.

Let me clarify that I wrote BGE a letter about the repeated problems, and the letter I got from corporate was rude - definitely not the workers. They were great.
