Farmers' Market to Move to Washington Avenue for November

The temporary move was driven by the holiday shopping season.

If Allegheny Avenue seems eerily quiet during the Towson Farmers' Market on Thursdays in November, there's a good reason. You're on the wrong street.

Nancy Hafford, executive director of the Towson Chamber of Commerce, is moving the market to the Washington Avenue streetscape for the final three dates of the season, Nov. 3, 10 and 17.

During the summer, the chamber used the streetscape on Tuesdays for small open-air markets.

The move to the recently-completed streetscape was driven by some Allegheny Avenue merchants whose traffic picks up closer to the holiday shopping season.

"They get really busy in November, and it's just really tough for their customers to come in," Hafford said.

Fewer farmers and merchants attend the market in November because "they don't have much to sell," so the move to a smaller location won't impact the market's size.

The market will return to Allegheny Avenue when the 2012 season opens in June.
