Some people say that no news is good news. I prefer to believe that lots of news in one place is even better. That's why I'm pumped about NewsTrust, a non-profit pilot project that launched in Baltimore today.
How's it work?
It's a little bit like Digg meets Huffington Post. Users or news organizations submit stories and regular people review them. A team of skilled editors picks the good stuff and posts it to the front page.
The goal is to show off the best journalism around town and help people become more informed news consumers. And that's something we here at Patch believe in, so we've partnered with them to provide links to our content on the NewsTrust site.
We're not the only people involved. NewsTrust has similar partnerships with the Associated Press, Baltimore Sun, Washington Post, Baltimore Brew, Center Maryland and Urbanite, among others. You'll also see content from journalism students at Towson University, University of Maryland and others.
What changes for you? Absolutely nothing, really. We're still here. You just have another way to find us. In fact, we hope sites like NewsTrust enrich the conversation and get more people really interested in what's going on in their community. That's a goal that's good for everyone.
