UPDATED: Joppa Road Salvation Army Fire Controlled Quickly
Mary Buckley, a director of operations for the Salvation Army, said the store was on fire when the first employee arrived.
UPDATE (1:37 p.m.) — No one was injured when a blaze broke out at the Salvation Army store, 1748 E. Joppa Road, Wednesday morning.
Ten fire companies and 40 personnel arrived on the scene to combat the blaze at 8:45 a.m., according to Baltimore County Fire Department spokesman Capt. Bruce Schultz.
Fire crews were met with heavy smoke and a fire at the back of the store, Schultz said.
The fire was placed under control by 9:20 a.m. and no one was injured. While responding to the scene, a fire engine was involved in an accident but no one was injured, Schultz said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to Schultz.
Mary Buckley, a director of operations with the Salvation Army, said that when her first employee arrived around 9 a.m. he saw smoke pouring from the tops of the building and called the fire department.
By the time Buckley arrived, at 9:45 a.m., she said the fire had been put out.
"The fire started in the back, and it looks to have been a wiring issue," Buckey said. "The fire department is still investigating, so we'll see when we have a report."
By 10:45 a.m. trucks from both Hillendale and Parkville fire departments had left the scene.
"The fire department was great, they got it out quickly and they've been very helpful," Buckley said.
