Marks: Towson in OK Shape Following Sandy
The councilman said the town fared much better with Sandy than it did with the late June derecho.
Councilman David Marks said he spent the bulk of Tuesday morning in talks with Towson community leaders following post-tropical cyclone Sandy.
"We generally fared much better than we did during the derecho," he said.
Marks did acknowledge that some neighborhoods, including Rodgers Forge, Campus Hills, Idlewylde and Stoneleigh, were hit harder than others.
The 5th district councilman, a Perry Hall Republican, also lauded Baltimore Gas & Electric for their communication and restoration efforts, which he said were far superior to the utilities company's handling of the summer derecho.
"BGE has been much more proactive," Marks said.
The derecho, or land hurricane, struck the region in late June and left many Towson residents without power for more than a week. Marks was one of several area elected officials who called for BGE to hold community meetings following the company's response to the summer storm.
Although the damage caused by Sandy was limited in Towson, Marks said it was a good thing that residents were prepared for the worst.
"I think it's better to be over-prepared than not," he said.
Still, he urges residents to stay indoors as much as possible as recovery efforts are underway.

Really?
Considering large sections of West Towson and Southland Hills are still dark the time for BGE kudos is now?
I suppose this is the result of a Perry Hall resident representing a town miles from where he lives. When the storm comes Marks hunkers down in the far east.
Well, at least we'll have a new theater complex with shopping anchored by a county parking garage in a couple of months!

Any objective person would conclude that Towson was better prepared and less impacted than after the Derecho, when there were far more widespread outages.
I know exactly where the current outages are located because I spent Tuesday communicating with community leaders. In fact, I stayed in touch with about a dozen neighborhood leaders before, during, and after the storm. I have passed along requests to BGE and to county agencies, and I arranged for the Towson Y to make showers available for those who need them. If I had the power to restore power lines, I would happily do it.
I won't respond to your flip comment about where I live except to say that I am proud to represent Towson. There are an awful lot of hardworking Towsonites who care about this community and do more than complain anonymously from behind a computer monitor.
