Poll: Orioles Schedule Conflicts with Ravens’ Plans

The NFL would like the Ravens to open their season at home on Sept. 5, but the O’s already have a game scheduled.

Traditionally the Super Bowl champions get to play at home on the opening night of the season, but a scheduling conflict with the Orioles may make that impossible for the Ravens.

The NFL would like to schedule the Ravens to open at home on Sept. 5, but the Orioles already have a home game with the Chicago White Sox. Moving the Ravens game back a day is not an option because of Rosh Hashanah.

  • What do you think should be done to alleviate the scheduling conflict?

    • Tough, the Orioles already had their schedule set. The Ravens will just have to open on the road.

    • The Orioles should play their game that day and the Ravens should play that night. In fact, I’m already calling out of work.

This is the NFL's problem. Why cant they play on Rosh Hashanah? They did last year!!! They play on Christmas almost every year. Play it on Wednesday.

Exactly this.

They play on Thanksgiving, they play on Christmas...yet Rosh Hashanah is offlimits? Please.

As a PSL holder trying to contact lawyers willing to sue the NFL. They devalue the worth of my tickets ,costing emotional loss what if one of our players get hurt and we never have flag unfurled in league opening game in our lifetime.Excuse of Jewish holiday totally BS they played on it last year and guess what it will be played in another city this year The holiday extends through Thursday . Think Angelos will help? Maybe at halftime last year they realized this and pulled plug lol. NFL? What were odds in 69 superbowl?

If Rosh Hashanah is an excuse for not playing football, why is it ok to play on thursday when the holiday begins Wednesday night and ends Friday night? And I agree with what other commentators have said, why is Rosh Hashanah being considered when pro sports play on other religious holidays all the time?

If the Ravens really want to play Thursday the O's should be flexible, it's easy enough to make their game a day game or do a double header, but I also don't see why the Ravens cant play another day either if Rosh Hashanah is their only excuse.

I agree 100% with those above, Why not play on Rosh Hashana? They play on Thanksgiving, we play all kinds of sports on Christmas. Even better, Rosh Hashana is the Jewish New Years. What do we do here in America on New Years? We play football all day long! Another typical bs excuse from the lame commissioner!

Just play both games on 9/5/13. What is the big deal anyway? 70k at M&T and 10K at Camden. It's not like there hasn't been 100,000 people downtown before at one time. Tall ships, Grand Prix, 4th July Fireworks, New Years Eve and oh yea, 125,000 people showed up for the Ravens SB parade. With lots of advanced preparations and time, everything would be fine. I'll be there, not worried about it.

I agree with bored. I believe his numbers on attendance are right on, and it would not be a problem to play both games at the same time.

I agree with Edwin Fitzsimmons... Rosh Hoshana is the Jewish New Year... leave the Orioles schedule as is and schedule the Ravens opener on Rosh Hoshana... oy vey already!

This is a very simple answer for me, if the Orioles won the World Series I would expect the Ravens to do everything possible to accomodate that victory. But it was the Ravens that won the World Championship and I fully expect the Orioles to accomodate the Ravens. We are from the same town, give the Ravens some respect and stop being selfish. Find a way to accomodate the respect the Ravens have earned. Stop whining Angelos and get it done. This is not rocket science. The Orioles haven't smelled a championship in 20 years, let those who have done so enjoy it.

So if the O's make the playoffs again this year the Ravens should adjust their schedule to accommodate a home game for them if necessary? The very simple answer is for the Ravens to play on Wednesday, Rosh Hashanah or not.

I can't stand Angelos but this is not his decision alone. The White Sox and Major League Players Association have to agree as well, and the Player's Association will not allow them to play a day game due to the fact that both teams will not even be arriving in Baltimore til after 3am due to having night games in other cities the night before.

The problem here is Goodell, they moved the game last year due to DNC, and it was played on Rosh Hashanah...Goodell is just using that as an excuse this year to get his way. They should do away with Thursday football anyway, except for the traditional Thanksgiving day games that the Cowboys and Lions take part in.

One of the questions shows how little the person drawing up this poll understands about baseball. The Chicago White Sox couldn't stay over for a game on Friday - they are scheduled in another city on that day!

I was wrong. The White Sox are in Baltimore for a 4 game series, beginning on Thursday, Sept 5.

Schedules for baseball were set several months ago. To ask the Orioles to step aside on a September game is to ask them to plan on not being in a pennant race. The solution is to move the ballpark or the stadium. Seeing as how that's not happening, the NFL needs to adjust.

Play the game on Wednesday, as the NFL set the prescedent last year. Do other sports stop on religious holidays? Seems to me the NFL is trying to bully the Orioles in moving their game after it has been set since a long while ago. There are not enough police security to do both games at the same time, and a Oriole afternoon game wont work with the Ravens at night because if there is a rain delay or extra innings game, the parking lots wont be free for the football game. Easy solution, Roger, play it on Wednesday.
