Robber Targets Dumbarton Middle, Towson High Students for Cell Phones
A robber threatened the students while they were walking home from school.
Dumbarton Middle School and Towson High School students were approached by a robber threatening them with a gun for their cell phones, and police say to expect increased patrols in the area in response.
At 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, a robber attempted to grab a cell phone from a Towson High School student walking home from school in the 600 block of Dunkirk Road, police said. There was a struggle and the robber pointed a gun at the student, Batton said
The robber grabbed the phone and fled westbound on Dunkirk Road, police said. The incident was reported at 4 p.m.
Shortly afterward, at 3:13 p.m., three Dumbarton Middle School students were walking home in the 700 block of Regester Avenue when a male stopped them and asked for directions, said Cpl. Cathleen Batton, a police spokeswoman. He then told the students that he would shoot them if a cell phone was not given to him. The three ran away from the scene without handing anything over.
"We're looking at the possibility that [the two incidents are] connected," Batton said.
In both cases, the robber was described as a 6 foot tall male between 17 and 18 years old with a thin build and short hair.
Batton said officers are increasing their patrols of the area, and encourage residents to suspicious activity to the police.
Editor's Note: Due to wrong information provided by the Baltimore County Police Department, the school one of the students attended was incorrectly identified in an earlier version of this report.

He probably ran out of money while playing Keno or Racetrax in the back of Mclellans liquors or Sherwood Market, hung a left on Regester and found the first victim. A shame what that strip of businesses has turned in to...bullet proof glass and gambling in the back.

"male between 17 and 18 years old with a thin build and short hair". That's all?

apparently, fully describing miscreants in the Baltimore Metro area is insulting to one particular racial group, from which virtually all of the crime emanates. That would be the African-American, Negro, black, [pick one] community.

Not to excuse the criminal but, when you let little kids walk down the street carrying technology worth hundreds of dollars, how is this a surprise? They may as well have $100 bills pinned to their jackets. Wise up people!

Sure, blame the kids (we are talking about children here) and their parents, not the criminals. And pretty much calling the victims idiots. Real appropriate advice.

SKFS, you did notice that I opened with "not to excuses the criminal..." didn't you? Anyone knows if you walk around displaying something valuable, you become atarget for thieves. Little kids carrying this stuff are especially vulnerable. If they must carry a phone, at least give them a cheap pay-as-you-go phone like a Tracphone.

Are you saying that kids shouldn't carry cell phones and computers to school? Would a free cell phone be a better choice, really. Maybe you could drive them all. Maybe arm the kids with weapons that carry with expensive phones and they would have a chance.. We need to do something about the crime/criminals integrating & creeping out of the city into the county... Sorry if anyone is offended.

I'm sure the thug used a properly registered and legally bought fire arm as well.
