For the last year, Towson residents and workers have been treated to a sort of "Extreme Makeover: Office Building Edition."
Several area businesses and organizations saw their new dream home in Towson City Center, the 12-story office building once known as the Investment Building.
Leasing agents Cassidy Turley announced Wednesday that all but the fifth and sixth floors of the 157,712-square-foot tower have been leased. The two floors can house about 12,000 square feet of office space each.
“Towson City Center is strategically located at the crossroads of Towson," Doug Brinkley, Cassidy Turley's senior managing director and principal, said in a press release. Current interest in the site is strong, due to the project’s highly visible location, efficient floor plate and views, and in-building parking.”
Caves Valley Partners bought the building in 2010 and invested $27 million into improvements, including the glass facade that's joined the Towson skyline.
The building's lead tenants include Mile One Automotive and Towson University. Mile One will move its headquarters to Towson, and set up a service center nearby on York Road. Towson University will move offices, four external-facing clinics and WTMD-FM to the building. Towson University's Wellness Center will be open to the building's tenants.
Towson University will lease 58,000 square feet of space in all, more than one-third of the building. Four floors will house Mile One and offices for the building's owner, Caves Valley Partners.
Other tenants include office rental firm BusinessSuites (one floor), financial planning firm WMS Partners (one floor). Baltimore-based Bagby Restaurant Group will operate a farm-to-table restaurant on the lower level called Cunningham Kitchen.

So when are they getting rid of the cooling tower on top and putting on the neat overhangs, like they've always shown in the pictures.

Hi Tom, I'll see if I can get an answer to that for you. Though, by the fall, WTMD plans to put a radio tower up there (pending FCC approval).

When is the OLD Gino's building going to be removed? It has been an eyesore for 25+ years and is only getting worse. This is not a good thing to see from the new focus of Towson.

Good question. The release said Mile One plans a service center nearby on York Road. That would be the only vacant property nearby that I can think of. I'll check with them.

I just heard from Arthur Adler at Mile One. Mile One customers will be able to use one of Mile One's facilities along York Road, including nearby at the Heritage Honda, Hyundai and Mazda dealerships. Nothing new's going up outside, like at the property you're talking about.

I was hoping that parcel with the old Ginos and what had been vacant nearby lots would have been assembled into a nice piece of land to be used for a frist class facility of some type, perhaps incorporating the historic old stone building (formerly Valley Gun) into the project. But then Sun Trust went and built and very boring, suburban like branch there, so I wouldn't be optimistic for anything decent on the old Gino's site soon.
