Towson Mall Thief Strikes Employee with Car

Pac Sun employees followed the woman after she stole a shirt from the store, police said.

A thief hit a Pac Sun employee with a car after she stole a shirt from the Towson Town Center store, Baltimore County police said.

At around 7:55 p.m. Thursday, Pac Sun employees observed the thief, described as a 5-foot-4-inch woman in her 20s who weighs about 140 pounds with black hair and brown eyes, tuck a shirt from the store underneath the shirt she was wearing, said Cathleen Batton, a police spokeswoman. The woman left the store without paying, and the employees followed her while calling mall security.

One employee stood behind the woman's 2000 white Volvo to prevent her from leaving the store, Batton said. The thief then backed up her vehicle, striking the employee. She nearly hit the employee again when she turned her vehicle to leave to scene.

The employee, who was not seriously injured, refused medical treatment, police said.

The thief was last seen heading toward Fairmont Avenue.

Shows you how bad mall security is. They probably are all just sitting in some office watching. How someone can steal a shirt and be followed and mall security can't get to them is crazy. That's why I don't shop in the mall anymore

The security at Towson Mall is a joke. There are regular gangs of shoplifters that store owners know by sight. The mall security just tells them to call the County Police. These security clowns may as well not even be there.

@reporter. Does the color of this person's eyes have any bearing on the significance of this story. Why waste time reporting it? The part about her illegal actions is the real story here and certainly worth reporting, but to detail her physical descriptions to this point? For what purpose?

Pretty good detailed description with one glaring exception; was this perpetrator white, black, hispanic, or asian? Amazing omission! Afraid to offend some special group?

We all need to be on the lookout for a female with black hair and brown eyes. Should we call 911 if we spot her??!!

The Patch reporters' supervisor gave them permission to include descriptions of race when it is attainable, but some folks just have to have the PC included in their reporting. You know...their world feels sooo much better to them with a rainbow canvassing it.

To once again clarify, it is Patch policy to not include race unless there is a distinguishing feature such as a face tattoo or unique scar. The instruction from my supervisor has been consistent with this practice.

I think the real story is the actions of the store employee and the fact this woman would run a person over to get away. There are plenty of thefts in Towsontown so the shoplifting is not really a story.

Ms. Davis, You are mistaken about that policy if you have the same managing editor as Pikesville Patch's editor, Ms. Metzner. She informed her readers last month that that policy was changed by her manager, and in the future Patch will disclose a suspect's race when it is included in a police report as described by witnesses. You guys really need to get your act together.

instead of standing behind the vehicle, why not call 911 and report the description and tag #?
If you're going to be ballsy enough to follow them and try to prevent them from leaving, why not just confront them about it?!

There are a bunch of Kids working in Pac Sun. I am sure the employee did WHAT THEY THOUGHT was the appropriate action. An adult would think twice before duplicating the employees tactic. You can bet all the Kids working in Pac Sun have been advised (if not re-advised) on how to handle this situation in the future.
