Towson Y Opens Showers to Neighbors

The Y of Central Maryland is allowing residents who still don't have power to use its showers.

If you're still without power and need to clean off, the Towson Family Center Y's doors are open.

Bev Landis, the district executive director for the Towson Y, said showers at Y centers throughout central Maryland are open as the region recovers from this weekend's storms.

"If someone doesn't have power and they want to come in and shower, we would absolutely let them come in and do that," Landis said. "We always want to be able to help people. People haven't had shopwers for three days, some of them."

Hundreds of thousands of Baltimore Gas and Electric customers are still without power. Towson-area neighborhoods like Rodgers Forge, Burkleigh Square, Stoneleigh and Anneslie were hard hit, according to County Councilman David Marks.

The centers are open regular hours. All Y centers close at 7 p.m. on Sundays.

I was just at the Towson Y this morning to bring my kids to camp and they were closed due to not having power.

I discovered that, too, when I went there to work out. I'm hearing West Towson is just starting to see power come back again, though. They lost it last night.

The North Plaza location is still up and running.
