Traffic Alert: Goucher, Towson Commencements

Goucher College and Towson University are set to send off their graduates this week and next.

Goucher College is set to host its 121st commencement on Friday, and college officials want drivers to know about possible issues that morning.

Though officials don't anticipate major delays, the college said in a statement to expect "heavier than usual" traffic on Dulaney Valley Road ahead of the commencement, which starts at 10:30 a.m. on the Margaret M. Winslow Great Lawn outside the Athenaeum building.

For traffic concerns on the day of the ceremony, call Goucher's Office of Public Safety at 410-337-6112.

Ira Glass, host of public radio's "This American Life," is set to address the graduates. The college will hand out honorary degrees to Glass, state Treasurer Nancy K. Kopp and U.S. Marine Chaplain Rear Adm. Margaret Grun Kibben, a 1982 Goucher graduate.

Towson University will host six ceremonies—one for each undergraduate college—from next Wednesday, May 23 to Friday, May 25, at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. each day.

If you're driving in the area on those days, use caution, particularly on Osler Drive, or seek alternate routes around the university.

Bill Owens, executive editor of "60 Minutes" and a Towson graduate, will speak at the College of Fine Arts and Communication ceremony on May 25. All Towson ceremonies will be streamed online.
