VIDEO: Cromwell, Hawaii Students Write Poetry
A difference of five time zones didn't stop the latest class project.
Call it the 21st century version of penpals.
Students at Cromwell Valley Elementary School have mastered the tools of digital communication to connect with new friends nearly 5,000 miles away.
At Cromwell, a Global Partnership School, every class has at least one partner class somewhere. The classes use tools like Skype and Edmodo (think an educational version of Facebook) to connect with their friends.
In Flo Falatko's class on Thursday, students recited collaborative poems via webcam with partners at the Kamehameha School in Hawaii.
Falatko said the project helps to teach students teamwork, creativity, safe and productive use of communication tools and got them a classroom of new friends five time zones away.
