Local officials and community leaders point to the Towson Triangle, the block formed by York Road, Towsontown Boulevard and Burke Avenue, as the missing link in downtown Towson.

Currently, the triangle includes the Towson University Marriott Conference Hotel, Starbucks, Dunkin' Donuts, a new sushi spot, the American Legion and several pizza shops.

Much of the area is vacant or undeveloped, however. Several vacant buildings in the triangle were demolished last year. And the stretch of York Road is not as inviting to pedestrians as residents and business owners would like it to be.

A county panel is trying to come up with plans for the triangle. Give them some ideas to get going.

I know Tyler is trolling for page views but this is a bit deceptive.

The effort is more about visual improvement for York Road and has little to do with the interior space which is owned by the American Legion and used for parking.

If I recall there are two small parcels between Pizza Palace and the Starbucks, one of which stretches back and abuts the Marriott parcel.

Typography wise, nothing is possible along W. Burke and W. Towsontown and again, the majority of the interior is owned by the Legion.

The real object of this exercise is to figure out how to get the businesses along that strip to spend capital to create a unified pleasing aesthetic. The other option is to lure a developer with bonds and tax credits to purchase all the properties, demolish them and rebuild as single block.

So, if you can figure out how to make independent businesses spend money in a effort that may well be detrimental to the success of said business - step up.

Its a bit of an eyesore but more harm than good will come from trying to force a solution that the market can't support. That's how we ended up with so much empty commercial footage in the core already.

How about a nice market...like Eddies or Grauls? Or something like belvedere square market? It would be great to have something for Towson Manor, Burkleigh Square and Towson Green residents to easily walk to for everyday grocery staples.

The York Road footprint is too small for onsite parking = a death knell for suburban markets. Remember, Belvedere Square has a fair sized parking lot.

How about creating a beautiful green space with fountains where local small bands, musicians, etc. could play music in the evening? Maybe turn it into an ice rink in the winter? Towson doesn't need any more boxy stores and small restaurants here today and gone tomorrow. It would create foot traffic. If only the owners of the shops along the 700 block of York would fix up their store fronts, especially the vacant ones......

I agree... the space could wrap around to the American Legion. I've been thinking about this for ages... Anything to get the temporary metal fence and rocks gone.

How about the 800 block of York Road, the gateway to Towson the appearance is terrible including vacant and rundown county owned buildings
