Your Photos: Baltimore County Tree Lighting Ceremony
The ceremony included performances from local children's groups, and a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus.
The holidays have officially started in Baltimore County.
On Saturday night, local officials including County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, Councilman David Marks and state Senator Jim Brochin and state Delegate Steve Lafferty joined county residents to celebrate the annual lighting of the county Christmas tree at Olympian Park in Towson.
The ceremony featured performances by the Anna Apicella School of Dance, the Perry Hall Middle School eighth grade choir and the Chapel Hill Music Sensations.
Following the lighting, Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived to Towson via fire engine and later greeted children at his workshop, located at 1 E. Joppa Road.
Nancy Hafford, executive director of the Towson Chamber of Commerce, which helped organize the event, said approximately 500 people attended the ceremony.
"It was a wonderful evening, and we had a great turnout," she said.

It was a disgrace.
The Politicians had a stage and multible microphones available, while the children who performed stood on the sidewalk to dance or sing.
If you were several rows deep you could barely hear or see these elementary school children.
When I asked and complained to a gentleman who was handing out song sheets WHY.His answer was the stage was too small.
I can understand that, but they knew who and how many were invited and should have made the accomodations.
They also could have had Christmas Music playing for the crowd as they gathered and waited. We're talking about a CD play inging

Continued..... playing through a sound system.
My wife and I left before the Tree Lighting because we recognized this as ano insult to us watching most of the politicians standing on the stage laughing and cajoling while the children tried to be heard and seen.
Not all the people on stage were being disrespectful, but you know who you are.
