Dinner and a movie coming to downtown Towson

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz

‘Dinner and a movie’ will soon have a whole new meaning in downtown Towson.   I was excited to announce that three restaurants – all new to Baltimore County – are the first of eight best-in-class restaurants joining Cinemark Theatres in the new Towson Square entertainment center coming to downtown Towson.  Towson Square is an expansion of the successful Towson Circle development which features Barnes & Noble, Trader Joe’s and Pier 1 Imports.

La Tagliatella, with restaurants throughout Europe, features generous portions of northern Italian cuisine. Towson will be one of their first U.S. restaurants. Nando’s Peri-Peri, a South African-owned restaurant with locations in 34 countries on five continents, specializes in Portuguese flame-grilled chicken. On the Border Mexican Grill & Cantina is known for its mesquite-grilled cuisine and lively outdoor patio.

Cinemark Theatres also is bringing their new VIP-level seating concept to Towson, featuring full bar service and premium food choices for over-21 movie patrons.  There will be a total of 15 state-of-the-art screens with 3,400 stadium-style seats, bringing the latest films and theatre experiences to downtown Towson.

We expect Towson Square to draw people from throughout the Baltimore area, so we’re getting ready right now. Construction is underway on a new 650-space underground parking garage to be operated by the Baltimore County Revenue Authority.  The movie theatres and restaurants will be open in 2014.

Stay tuned – there’s more coming soon to a downtown near you.

A 650 space parking garage to support a 3500 seat theater plus 8 restaurants? Sounds a bit light. Or, are you maybe expecting that most of the paying customers will be coming by bus? Right. How about running a Light Rail spur to Towson? LOL!
