Superintendent Wants Followers...On Twitter

The public can now follow new Baltimore County Public Schools Superintendent S. Dallas Dance ... on Twitter.

Dance's account @DDance_BCPS will give the public updates on his activities and schools issues, according to a school system news release.

"Making sure that communication is clear, timely, and transparent is one of my priorities," Dance said in the release. "Twitter is one vehicle that will allow me to directly reach our many stakeholders with information about the initiatives and ideas that are at the forefront of our agenda."

Some of his first tweets included:

"Great first day! Day one felt like Day 120!"

"What a great day! Heading to meet with central office staff to stress the importance of supporting schools and student achievement."

Other posts linking to articles about the possible end of classroom lectures, teacher collaboration and creating a culture of success in schools gives followers insight into what Dance is reading.

Dance, 31, is Baltimore County's first sitting superintendent managing his own Twitter account. The worldwide social networking site was first developed during the administration of Dr. Joe Hairston—who didn't personally use social networking to communicate with county residents.
