American Presbyterians and the War of 1812
The War of 1812 has been described as ‘America’s forgotten war’, as ‘America’s second war for independence’, and (by opponents at the time) as ‘Mr. Madison’s war’. In his talk, TPC member and research historian Pete Kakel (MA, PhD, University of London) will discuss ‘American Presbyterians and the War of 1812’, focusing on the bitter divisions between pro-war Republican ministers and anti-war Federalist ministers in what has been recently and rightly called ‘the civil war of 1812’ over the North American continent. Meet in the Library at 11:15 a.m.
