Americans For Prosperity Providing $1.84 Gas a Gallon in Towson

The conservative political group is protesting President Barack Obama's economic and energy policies.

Customers at the Towson Hess gas station could feel a little less pain at the pump on Thursday.

The Maryland branch of Americans for Prosperity, a conservative political group that blames President Barack Obama for rising gas costs, will pay the difference so that the first 150 customers arriving between 4 and 6 p.m. are only charged $1.84 per gallon, according to a news release.

"When President Obama took office in January 2009, gas cost just $1.84 per gallon," State Director Dave Schwartz said in the release. "Because of the president’s failing economic and energy policies, we’ve seen gas prices go to nearly $4 per gallon."

Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney has touted high gas prices during the Obama administration as part of his campaign, but USA Today reported on Monday that prices appear to be going on a downward trend.

According to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge report, the national regular gas price average on Tuesday is $3.534.

Keith Madsen, owner of Towson Hess, which is located at 1613 East Joppa Road, circulated a petition against rising gas prices in February.

Americans for Prosperity!!! That's the Koch Brothers. They could afford to buy everybody free gas for years. Sorry, not buying it.

The biggest driver of gas price fluctuation is global demand. The activity level of the world's economies are the major determinant of global oil demand. So it's no surprise that gas prices were at their lowest at the peak of the recession, right when Obama was inaugurated. In July 2008 (right before the crash), gas prices were $3.60. Then all hell broke loose, the economy tanked, demand plummeted, and prices fell to $1.84. Anyone with half a brain can remember prices well over $4/gallon during the Bush years. As the global economies recover, and especially with the continued growth of large developing countries such as China and India, gas prices should be expect to a rise. A lot. That said, I will be first in line for discounted gas on Thursday. The more money these AFP people spend on MY gas, the less they have to generate real attacks on Obama. Fill 'er up, and could you clean that windshield while you're at it?

Gas prices lower past month. Approx. $3.65 to $3.80 in area. Demands, seasonal changes, OPEC change prices. President (any- Dem or Repub.) haven't much influence or power to change prices.
