The Maryland branch of Americans for Prosperity, a conservative political group that blames President Barack Obama for rising gas costs, will pay the difference so that the first 150 customers arriving between 4 and 6 p.m. are only charged $1.84 per gallon, according to a news release.
"When President Obama took office in January 2009, gas cost just $1.84 per gallon," State Director Dave Schwartz said in the release. "Because of the president’s failing economic and energy policies, we’ve seen gas prices go to nearly $4 per gallon."
Republican Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney has touted high gas prices during the Obama administration as part of his campaign, but USA Today reported on Monday that prices appear to be going on a downward trend.
According to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge report, the national regular gas price average on Tuesday is $3.534.
Keith Madsen, owner of Towson Hess, which is located at 1613 East Joppa Road, circulated a petition against rising gas prices in February.
