Visions for Vacancies: 5109 York Road

Patch wants to know what you think should fill this vacant commercial space.

A former Harbor Bank branch—the property still has a drive through at the rear—this building at 5109 York Road has sat vacant for years.

The space is directly across from the street from the Public Safety building.

The number on the sign for anyone interested in leasing the space is incorrect, and state property records show the space was built in 1982 and is currently owned by York Apartments, LLC.

What kind of business would be a good fit for this spot? Tell us in comments.

So your suggestion is to berate Bill Henry, one person who is trying to make a difference. Thanks for your optimism.

I guess the book business is dying, but ever since Daedalus at Belvedere closed, I've missed having a bookstore in the area. However the sad fact is is that any retail business around there will be a holdup target.

A nice Eatery. Similar to those that can be found on Coldspring (that "Ms Shirley's" corridor) or shops found on Harford Rd. -RCB

Internet Cafe. It could sell books, breakfast, coffee, and provide access to computers and the internet for those who don't currently have it.

I like the bakery idea. Wish that new Toss Pizza was there... it would be close enough to walk! I am also concerned how we can make that space a safe space for a nice business.
