My Prizes And What It All Means

This is a story on someone encouraging me these last few days; in the manner I try to encourage others to excel and accomplish.

J. Umbridge again wrote me two nice notes on Comments on my Patch article from the other day. It said “My heart skipped a beat when I saw that you wrote another column. And boy is this good one. I’m going to recommend that my pastor read this for his Thanksgiving message. For those of us with dents in our spirits, you are like a little hammer that straightens them out.” Her comment was on one of the last articles which was called No Dent In Our Spirit. Oh dear reader, J.U., I do not want your heart to skip a beat, I want it to be healthily in your fine body. If I was able to hear his words and using my words, I would come and be blessed to hear them. Since I will be away with my family, I cannot not. You will tell me all about it, please.

Her second comment was about another article, I do not know which one and she said “Oh, it’s an honor. I spent Friday and much of Saturday reading through your columns. I printed out several of them and gave them to my neighbors. My one neighbor just lost his wife and your writings lifted his heart. He is an accomplished pianist who studied at Julliard and he may create a piece based on your words.” Dear J.U., I am happy to have lifted your neighbor’s heart and what an honor if he creates a piece based on my humble thoughts and words. Please tell him I said that. My brother and I took piano lessons way back when we were kids, he played quite well and I played kind of well. It is gone from me now since I have not played for over sixty-six years and we do have a fine looking white/cream colored Baby Grand piano which sits in our living room and is played by my two younger grandkids when they come to visit. Perhaps, if he creates a piece, I will learn to play it. Oh how lovely the thought is.

They say that words can start wars and I say words can soothe, express, help, love, care, and inspire almost everything.

Moms soothe their kids, lovers soothe each other, friends care and help and innocent columns written on paper and now online can soothe our souls and hearts. I shall tell my cardiologist Charles C.Cummings when I see him at the end of this month, how heart is mentioned by J. Umbridge in her comments on my articles.

Perhaps, this can be a ‘new’ cure; he can try to help people with ailing hearts. Of course, anyone can tell us that soothing and caring about us will lessen anxiety and help to alleviate pressure on the heart. My own Mom had a heart attack when my brother, his wife and baby girl left Baltimore for a new job for him in Springfield, Illinois. That was about fifty-seven years ago and it was thought then, that was the reason. I do not think in today’s modern world with lots of detecting tests and MRI’s and other heart tests; they may not have come to that conclusion. My brother always thought that it was a coincidence. They did come back to Baltimore after about eighteen months and Mom was fine and fit as a fiddle as the expression goes.

There is the musical instrument, the fiddle, (do they still call it that) that can refer back to the musical piece that may be written using some of my words. The pianist, friend if he writes a piece based on some of my words will surely uplift my heart and my soul.

What further exciting results could I ever imagine, than the two thoughts by J. Umbridge with her pianist neighbor and her pastor to think so much of my writing? To me, it is like winning a Pulitzer Prize for writing or a Nobel Prize. We were in Stockholm, Sweden in about 1977 and we saw the room where the Nobel Prize is awarded. It is or was then, a long and gorgeous room and when you are there, you are overwhelmed to be in the place where all this happens. It also is given in Oslo, Norway and we saw that room too in our travels to Norway, Sweden and Denmark.

Every year since 1901 the Nobel Prize has been awarded for achievements in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and for peace. The Nobel Prize is an international award administered by the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1968, Sveriges Riksbank established The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, founder of the Nobel Prize. Each prize consists of a medal, personal diploma, and a cash award.

Mitt Romney in one of his speeches said “Walk with me.” I feel like I am walking with my readers and by encouraging them to go out and accomplish anything they desire to try; I am walking with them and them with me. It is never too late to appreciate yourself and be confident that you are competent enough to do it. Age should not stop you, some aches should not deter you and most of all, if you have the courage, the boldness and the bravery to even try; then you do something nice for someone now and even if it’s for yourself, it is truly worthwhile.

J.Umbridge, whatever courage, bravery and boldness I have had now in my writings for Hunt Valley-Cockeysville Patch and now for Towson Patch, you have increased it beyond any dreams I have had in the past, by telling me about your pastor and your neighbor liking my words.

Words are powerful, delightful and they can bring friends from afar close together. We have not met, but you are my new friend via the Internet. With a friend like you, I need nothing more to wish for. Your words to me on my writings have made me feel powerful, competent, and brave and if I had courage before I heard from you these past few days, you have increased it so much and for that, a seventy-eight year old senior lady is most grateful and loving to you. I am walking with you now in our “path together”, with lots of happiness, and I know that words can deliver so much, wherever they are articulated and expressed. I need not strive for any prizes; you have already given them to me. Thank you.
