More than 50,000 people are expected to fill the Inner Harbor Tuesday for Baltimore's annual New Year's Eve fireworks celebration, which is set to run from 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., says the Baltimore Sun

The city has planned safety measures included putting up spectator fencing in the Inner Harbor to help police better monitor crowd flows, the newspaper said, after a fatal stabbing and a child injured by celebratory gunfire in recent years.

U.S. Coast Guard officials will restrict boat traffic in and around the Inner Harbor Tuesday night from 11 p.m. until 1 a.m. around two barges that will carry the event's fireworks, the newspaper said.

Local band Alter Ego will perform at the Inner Harbor Amphitheater and a laser show will count down to 2014, the Sun says. At midnight, a fireworks and light show will light up the sky over the harbor.
