Must Eats in Towson

Searching for the must try eats in and around Towson. What's your favorite place?

I've been working in Towson for a little over a year now and I still feel like I haven't experienced all that Towson has to offer in terms of what food or restaurants "you've gotta try". I reached out to my friends a.k.a. I posted on Facebook and Twitter and here's a running list of what people had to say in no particular order (I've bolded places that I've tried):

Pappa's

Orchard Landing
Szechuan House
Bahama Breeze

Stoney River Steakhouse

I decided to venture to Monday night and, let me tell you, I was very satisfied. I ordered a Towson Burger, naturally, and split a side of wild fries with a friend. Talk about a good ol' fashioned burger with a twist.

is actually the first restaurant I visited in Towson before I started working here. You can't beat the novelty of a rotating sushi bar. The green tea ice cream is amazing!

Ah yes, . The location of my first happy hour in Towson. Half off apps till 7pm Monday - Friday? Yes, please. Not to mention that everything is so tasty!

I'll admit, I've only had pizza from but it passes my test. Hot, delicious, and piled high with fresh toppings.

I love (THB) and I'm guilty of frequenting their Canton location as well. I think that's self explanatory.

That still leaves plenty of restaurants on the list! Looks like I'm going to have to put away a bit of money dedicated to trying them out.

I'm sure the list is missing a few things. Tell me what I need to add and any menu items you recommend!

Pappas is our favorite, but we are octogenarians and enjoy eating with people in our age group. good food, well served, reasonable price, and a varied menu with the usual american items, plus daily specials and some innovative items. great place to enjoy lunch in an attractive setting.

For table cloth dinner you cannot beat Trois. For lunch I like Roly Poly at 600 Washington Ave., Casa Mia's in the lane, and of course, the famous Souris Tavern where the food and service are always good. Breakfast at Towson Diner is always consistenlty good as is breakfast at Roly Poly's Robert E. Latshaw, Jr. Latshaw Real Estate Advisors

Oops! Forgot to mention that Roly Poly delivers to my office when I am too busy to leave and delivers catered sandwich trays etc. to my business meetings when I am within a few miles of Towson. Robert E. Latshaw, Jr. Latshaw Real Estate Advisors

Sushi Hana Towson - Ah yes, in addiiton to your list of fine dining establishments, my newest favorite is Sushi Hana at 6 East Pennsyulvania Avenue. Owner Gina Ling Lai Lau provides an excellent array of delicious food and great service plus there is a BCRA parking lot right across the street ! Perhaps the Towson restaurant areas could use a Towson Valet Service to serve all those fine places your article mentioned. Believe the Greater Towson Committee suggested that idea a few years ago. In addition to being the editor of a neighboring Patch, I'm also a huge food nerd and there are plenty of awesome places to check out in Towson. First, I'll second (third, fourth and fifth) Sushi Hana where you'll find what I think is the best sushi in the state (seriously). If I want sushi, it's pretty much drive to Towson or don't eat sushi as far as I'm concerned. Thai One On has excellent Thai food, Pho Dat Than is awesome for Vietnamese. Noodle soup is the best thing on a chilly day. Also worth checking out: Kathmandu Kitchen (if you're into Indian/Nepalese, try the chicken or lamb saagwalla; curried spinach, it's the best) and Krazi Kabob (although I'm pretty sure the name has changed — it's across the street from the library). One last thought: Rec Room has awesome cheeseburgers — particularly fond of the one with bleu cheese, sauteed onions and mushrooms.

I spend too much time in the library, but the good news is RB Kebob, Andy's Bistro and Buddy Maratta's are right outside.

Personal favorite: Bread and Circuses.

Looks like I'm going to need to put aside more money than I thought! Good thing I'm not planning to stop working in Towson any time soon so I'll make my way to all of these places at some point. Thanks for all of the helpful tips! Any other comments on particular menu items? I seem to stare at menus way too long when I visit a new restaurant.

Towson has many wonderful restaurants. Souris Tavern is certainly a local landmark, and the Towson Diner is a hub of activity for breakfast meetings. My personal lunchtime favorite is the Kyodai rotating sushi bar, where you can quickly get some great sushi at a really affordable price.

If you're looking for quality, cheap - staying outside is a great option. You should check out the little Greek food stand that's parked on the sidewalk at Washington Avenue in front of the old courthouse (and across the street from the Post Office). It's called Greko Bites - - amazing pita-type sandwiches for $5. Guy who runs it is really nice, too -- and very clean.
