The Discovery Pre-K program at Summit Park Elementary School will once again receive a one-year repreive.
The program, which is run by the Greater Pikesville Recreation Council, is housed at a trailer owned by Baltimore County Public Schools at the Pikesville elementary school. For years, school officials have been considering discontinuing the pre-K program so the trailer can be used for students at Summit Park, which is over capacity.
On Tuesday, Superintendent S. Dallas Dance said the program would be safe through the 2013-14 school year. Officials had initially designated 2012-2013 as the transitional year before the program's fate was to be determined.
"I want to be sure I fully understand the situation," said Dance, who started his tenure in July.
Family members of students enrolled in the pre-K program, including one former Board of Education member, protested the program's possible removal at a Tuesday night board meeting.
