Question of the Day: Are You Attending the Mill River Fireworks Show?

Let your opinion be heard.

The village fireworks at Mill River are tomorrow night at 9 p.m. The South Shore Symphony will perform before the show at 7:30 p.m.

With that, Friday's Question of the Day is this: Are you attending the fireworks show? Why? Where are the best seats?

Let us know in the comments.

Mill River, right off Lincoln Avenue.

Call me Scrooge but with the economy being what it is I can think of a dozen things that could use the money being spent on pyrotechnics. If we need to tighten our belts, it would seem to me that we could and should manage to enjoy the Symphony sans fireworks.

Ted - This is a celebration that brings families together. For many this is a tradition. The fireworks and the Symphony's performance are completely funded by private donations. Those who are able donate. Those who can't donate contribute by sharing in the celebration. I think there is real value in community events, especially in hard times when peole need a chance to celebrate and be together.

Duly noted. Thought is was taxpayer funded. Enjoy!

Josie, great correction. In Ted's defense, this only became privately funded only about 3 years ago when the EX Mayor decided she didn't want to fund it anymore. True, with the cost of the fireworks, the police, public works, and sanitation, it did become a lot to bear with the economy. The other issue is that this event doesn't generate any revenue for the Village. Last night at the fireworks I watched hundreds if not thousands drive into the Village, look for parking, watch the fireworks, and then LEAVE THE VILLAGE. Sure its great to watch, but was it money well spent before it became privatized?
