Question of the Day: Do You Think 'McMansions' Are Detrimental to RVC?

Let your opinion be heard.

The village board recently modified the village's planning code to stop the construction of "McMansions" in the village. Many residents said they felt they looked too large for their property and appeared out of scale when compared to surrounding homes.

With that, Friday's Question of the Day is this: Do you think that "McMansions" are detrimental to the village?

Let us know in the comments.

By the way the street is StoneWELL Rd. I unfortunately live across from the god awful monster. Someone was definitely in a deep sleep when they ok'd this monster. Frank the house that was orginally there was old but all someone had to do was come in a gut it out and it would have been beautful. The picture of the home that was presented to me isn't the home that is being put up. It's been a nightmare living on this block, between huge trucks, workers starting at 7AM even on sats. and this house is only halfway done. And now it's been told to me that the owner of this mcmansion bought the house behind this house and they are going to knock it down so this mcmansion can now have and mcyard...:( Welcome to RVC!!

I suppose it is good to see the financial downturn didn't hit everyone so hard... Taxes on 2 lots in that area must be astronomical

that house is great and the owner pays tons of taxes for it; supporting more than his/her fair share for the village services we all enjoy. More money that comes into town, the better.

that home needed to be demolished. i went to an open house there few years back; it was raining. I can tell yhou first hand that a river of water was pouring from the second floor into the first! Between the mold and wood rot, that home had to be condemned. It sold for less than $750k in an area where homes average $1 million. Whoever is building that home in Stonewell is welcome in my neighborhood. the amount of investment only stands to improve RVC. What do you want our town to look like? Lakeview!!! More investment, more money, more taxes... all supports a better life for all.

LeeAnne - Not that it helps but if they did not buy the house next door - those neighbors likely would have felt like they were living next to a prison - what with the turret gun towers staring down on them!. The way the house is built - there will be NO front, back or side yard. Welcome to Brooklyn/Queens. That said - if I had that noise at 7 am esp Saturdays I would be on the horn to the Village Administrator every single day at 7 am demanding code enforecement. Call him at his home!
