First Phase of Long-Term Schools Safety Plan To Be Announced

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, Superintendent Dallas Dance and Police Chief Jim Johnson will host a Tuesday morning news conference.

County leaders will announce the first phase of Baltimore County Public Schools long-term safety and security plan on Tuesday.

County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, Schools Superintendent Dallas Dance and Police Chief Jim Johnson will host a 10 a.m. press conference at the Historic Courthouse in Towson, at 400 Washington Avenue, according to a news release. The recommendations are based on an ongoing review of safety and security operations.

Since the start of the 2012-2013 school year, the school system has face gun related incidents at Perry Hall High School, Stemmers Run Middle School, Deer Park Middle School and Owings Mills High School.

The system also amped up security efforts following a December mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.
