For the first 30 days, the cameras will issue warnings to drivers who exceed the posted speed limit by more than 12 mph.

After that, violations carry a penalty of $40 with no points.

This is the second batch of cameras to be added this summer following the the program.

Joe: Mine is - I test it every few months. It's not hard.
Tim August 7, 2012 at 02:53 pm
Funny thing is, if you aren't grossly speeding (i.e. violating the law), you've got no reason to hit the brakes.
Little bit of cause and effect there. I don't need to brake for cameras.
Tim August 7, 2012 at 02:53 pm
I absolutely support cameras on handicapped spots and fire lanes. 100%
jb His way August 7, 2012 at 02:53 pm
FIFA, Again I say if you don't do the crime you don't pay the fine. As for gps devices that report to the police, I would not support that. There are limits to the powers that police should have and that one shows great potential for abuse. It also does not address a specific safety issue whereas fire lane and handicap space cameras would.
FIFA August 7, 2012 at 03:02 pm
We just have a different line in the sand. Your quote, "Obey the law and all this becomes a non-issue." Appears slightly hypocritical. Full disclosure - no camera tickets here.
jb His way August 7, 2012 at 03:07 pm
If everybody did that the cameras would go away!
Paul August 7, 2012 at 03:11 pm
Sudden braking in the school or residential zones is usually not that big a problem, though I have seen people within legal limits still hit their brakes there just because they see a speed camera sign. At highway speeds, the guy three cars back of the speeder that slams on the brakes had better watch out for the chain reaction! This is much more about revenue and very little to do with the state's concern for your safety - especially on the highway.
jb His way August 7, 2012 at 04:00 pm
Maybe my statement "Obey the law..." does sound harsh. My point is that if we use some common sense and drive within reason, especially around schools, then speed cameras would become a non issue.
FIFA August 7, 2012 at 04:05 pm
Agreed.
FIFA August 7, 2012 at 04:05 pm
I am still suspicious of their deterrent effect.
Steve August 7, 2012 at 04:06 pm
LOL "Illegal is illegal"....or does that only apply to undocumented residents?
FIFA August 7, 2012 at 04:07 pm
Steve, at least spell it correctly, "ILLEGAL".
fred August 7, 2012 at 04:16 pm
if speeding is not a safety issue then you won't need cameras. expain how handicap violation is a safety issue.
Evets August 7, 2012 at 04:22 pm
Can't believe Mr. Fisher has not found his way over to this discussion yet...
FIFA August 7, 2012 at 04:24 pm
My point was, don't break the law. If you are not illegally parked in the spot you have nothing to worry about.
FIFA August 7, 2012 at 04:25 pm
Tim, you are consistent at least.
Justin August 7, 2012 at 05:15 pm
I would be interested to know if there is any data on accidents caused by these camera's. As a highway driver those Jeep's on the side of 95 with camera's on them cause everyone to slam their breaks to not get a ticket. I have first had seen 2 rear-ending's for that reason alone. So I would like to see what incidents have occurred on these roads that have made them targets for the camera's. I have a hunch there probably aren't many accidents but people tend to speed there. Which doesn't seem to be beneficial to society....more or so to create revenue
PerryHallParent August 7, 2012 at 06:19 pm
Tim, I am an excellent driver. Over 30 years, no tickets, no accidents, no violations. While we are discussing how perfect you are, please don't quit your day job because your work as a satirist here is sorely lacking. Your comment about testing your speedometer every few months tell quite a bit about the type of person (making up false things to make yourself appear better than you are) you truly are. Your additional comment about not speeding therefore not needing the brakes is incredibly inaccurate. Starting out at exactly 30 mph at the top with the camera on the right, school on the left, I have had to hit the brakes as my vehicle exceeds 40 if I try to "drift" by. While we all cannot be as perfect as you with your expertly calibrated speedometer and god-like driving skills, my point is, many vehicles will drift beyond the speed limit without applying the brakes. You need a life! I stopped weeding through your many obsessive comments but I'm sure I could find a lot more!

Buses not running today.
M. Sullivan August 7, 2012 at 08:07 pm
I'm waiting for the cameras that peer into your car to ticket you for driving while TEXTING or Talking on your Cellphone. They would really have a moneymaker there!
Alas, they won't get a bunch of Concerned Moms calling for it because they would be the ones getting all the tickets !
Chuck August 7, 2012 at 09:10 pm
I'm well aware, Gomer.
Other Tim August 7, 2012 at 10:48 pm
The speed limit on Cromwell Bridge Road alongside Loch Raven High School is 30MPH. Before the sign was put up, I would guess the average speed to be 45MPH. I drive that road every day to and from work. I feel like I put my life in my hands obeying the speed limit. I am tailgated, honked at, yelled at, given the finger, cut off and given dirty looks every day. I love that camera.
funnyguy August 7, 2012 at 11:21 pm
The look on that speed cameras face is all =O
Evets August 7, 2012 at 11:34 pm
On most days all that would be needed would be to post a couple of police officers at the exit of Seven Oaks ES at dismissal. It is unbelievable the number of cars that pull out onto Seven Courts with small children in the front seat w/o a seat belt, often with mom or dad fumbling with a cell phone. Probably a similar situation at most schools.
glenn August 8, 2012 at 07:21 pm
that one at loch raven should be raking in tons! coming over that hill where the speed limit goes from 40 to 30...
Steve August 8, 2012 at 07:30 pm
This is the most exciting thing at Loch Raven since the kids painted over the "R" in the Rock Church sign to make it an "F" and they painted over the "O" and made it a "U".
Other Tim August 8, 2012 at 08:24 pm
The speed limit sign you are talking about is well before where the hill goes down. There is a rise in the road at the speed limit sign. All I ever do is take my foot off the gas, and the car slows down to 30 before I reach the top of the incline. I think I am the only one who slows down for it. If you are obeying the speed limit of 40 on Cromwell Bridge Road you won't get a ticket anyway, because you are only exceeding the limit at the bottom of the hill by 10.
Elliott August 25, 2012 at 02:40 am
You know what bugs me is all the dumb ass people that drive 10mph below the fn speedlimit while going past these bs camera's! Learn the rules people!
Susan Harrison Huot December 5, 2012 at 01:26 am
Elliott, I think you should know that the SPEED LIMIT is just that. That is the fastest you should drive. It is NOT the required speed. "Learn the rules people!)
Ahmad0001 December 18, 2012 at 05:07 am
Speed cameras are a poor excuse for raising revenue under the guise of safety. http://www.onlinedatastoragesite.com/laptop-not-book/samsung-sequence-7-chronos-review-equipment.html
