The latest graduates from the Maryland State Police Academy in Sykesville include four Labrador retrievers who may soon start showing up at stadiums and other venues, officers said.
Jase—one of the dogs trained to sniff bombs on moving targets—gave a demo outside the Maryland State Police Public Safety Education and Training Center after a graduation ceremony Friday morning where he became an official K-9 officer. In the video attached, he detects the scent of an explosive on a person who has something sticking out of the back of his blazer.
The dogs and their partners had special person-borne explosive training funded by the Department of Homeland Security that enables police to track explosive-related scents "moving from Point A to Point B," Jase's handler Sgt. Scott Scala said.
