(Update 2:06 p.m.)—A Baltimore County Circuit Court judge has accepted a guilty plea from a Perry Hall High School student who admitted to shooting a special needs schoolmate.
Robert Gladden Jr., 15, pleaded guilty to one count of attempted first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a violent act before Circuit Court Judge Robert Cahill, Jr.
The other 27 counts against Gladden were dropped.
By entering a guilty plea, Gladden waived his right to a trial, which was scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
After 11 a.m., Baltimore County Assistant State's Attorney John Cox, Gladden's defense attorney George Psoras and Cahill discussed the terms of the plea agreement while Gladden's family members openly wept.
Gladden's sentencing hearing is scheduled for Feb. 25 at 9:30 a.m.
Cahill said the maximum sentence Gladden faces is life in prison with an active cap of 40 years.
Daniel Borowy, 17, was seriously injured following the Aug. 27 incident.

And I feel Mr. FIFA makes some salient points.
I am sure he has a lot more class then you do.
Katie, Cahill isn't going to "temper MERCY with Justice, he'll definitely met out the deserved sentence, I'll bet. Your obviously unaware of the mental health treatment in the correctional system. There isn't decent Mental Health care in the outside world, of this I know to be absolutely true, that being the case the correctional system is going to give him 3 hots & a cot, well, so 2 speak. BCPS has many opportunity for education available to students, of this I also know 2 be true. His family didn't want to be bothered. But if all of these people were aware of his family life why didn't anyone & everyone intervene.Call CPS over & over again. Tell them a BCPD about the drugs & firearms, apparently a large amount of people were very knowledgeable about what was happening within his home, BUT... NO ONE seemed to do much, or at least it wasn't reported.
I've known many very poor people & they don't don't bring along a shotgun to solve there problems. Thank God that isn't a "symptom" of being poor", because in this economy we'd be hearing shots ring out all day & night.
