Sunday Morning Fight Ends in Multiple Arrests

Police were forced to use pepper spray on a large crowd outside The Greene Turtle in Towson.

Police made "multiple arrests" early Sunday morning as the result of a fight outside The Greene Turtle in Towson.

There was a "A large party crowd that had wandered through the area," at about 1 a.m., said Cpl. J. Kelly, spokesman for the Baltimore County Police Department.

"We made multiple arrests," he said, adding that officers were forced to use pepper spray on the crowd.

The bar is located in the 400 block of York Road in Towson.

Details on the number of people were arrested, their identities,  or injuries were not immediately available, Kelly said.

The man shot in the hand was an African American male in his 20's. Source: my own 2 eyes as the police and then EMT's were attending to him. The crowd last night was very different than a normal weekend crowd.....

yes if crap like this happens in Towson, then YES the cops should be all over it like stink on you know what
Buzz Beeler September 24, 2012 at 11:53 AM
JP, attended a community meeting the other night and the captain was mortified by what he saw happening the area. He called it the "broken glass syndrome." homes unkempt homes, trash and graffiti. The good days of Baltimore County are long gone. The people got what they voted for.
number9dream September 24, 2012 at 12:35 PM
"The people got what they voted for." What did they get?
Buzz Beeler September 24, 2012 at 01:52 PM
A 571 % increase food stamps, overcrowded schools, a broken budget, and read the captain's quote. You might add a SS budget that is near tripling Section 8, high unemployment middle class flight. The got a new American where the flag is a symbol of controversy especially now in the Mid-East. If you wish I could go on and on.
number9dream September 24, 2012 at 02:14 PM
People voted for all those things?
Buzz Beeler September 24, 2012 at 02:23 PM
You don't study history too much do you? Do you have to read coloring books to get the information or is it beyond your thought process. Take a civics lesson.
number9dream September 24, 2012 at 02:34 PM
Who voted for overcrowded schools? I'd like to speak with them.
Steve September 24, 2012 at 02:56 PM
571% increase in food stamps during what period?? Local Government has nothing to do with the economy. The number of Food Stamp utilizer's has increased everywhere. http://www.bos.frb.org/commdev/c&b/2012/fall/role-of-food-stamps-in-the-recession.htm There's no Middle Class flight from BAltimore COunty and the Captain was talking about Dundalk not Towson. Big Difference....
Parkvillehoney September 24, 2012 at 04:01 PM
@TowsonStudent, Would you rather be shot or killed by rogue people?? I would rather have the police move out people than be "moved" out by shots or knives. Sorry, but a small situation usually turns into a big situation that involves injury or death.
Mrs. Carter September 24, 2012 at 04:07 PM
As a Towson resident, we received an e-mail stating that due to Towson U's homecoming there would be an increased police and TU security presence in all surrounding areas. TU evidently put on a tight restriction on tailgating. We were encouraged to call 911 and the TU student hotline if we saw anyone or any home with TU students getting out of hand. I cannot comment on the above event; but can comment on parents who come in and buy properties/rent properties for their spoiled children to come in to neighborhoods and act like idiots. Oh that's right this is a "college" town - I should move - Yes, I have been told that.
Parkvillehoney September 24, 2012 at 04:17 PM
@JP Is this a result of the Morgan State event at the Recher? What was the race of the group of people causing the problems in Towson. I think, as citizens, we have a right to know. Baltimore County Police have to be tuff on these hoodlums, whether they are white or black. I don't want Baltimore County to become another crime ridden Baltimore City. Baltimore County offficials and police, please wake up! The taxpayers and residents of Batimore County don't want this disruptive behavior to become the norm in Baltimore County. Please arrest and jail these losers that don't know how to act in a civil society.
Buzz Beeler September 24, 2012 at 05:16 PM
Just my point, the New America, the land of the free. The increase is from 2003 to 2012 and that is only one aspect of the SS Budget. There has been much written about the problems in Towson over the bars that they create. Read the article in the Sun and tell me this is the first occurrence of this type. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-county/towson/bs-md-co-towson-crowd-20120923,0,2018769.story You think families are going to want to bring their children there if this keeps up? You seem to forget that the money coming from Federal Government is not free. Local taxes come out of the right pocket and federal out of the left pocket.
Steve September 24, 2012 at 05:31 PM
"Land of the Free" The bulk of food stamp recipients are children and the elderly. What do you want to go back to? Child Slavery? Put Grandma to work? Local college kids have been drinking in Towson bars since time immemorial. Occasionally, they get into fights. Nothing has changed. This incident happened at 1 AM. Families shouldn't have their children out at 1 AM.

Being raised in the 50's, we were poor and no one I knew ever received government assistance. We received help such as food, hand me down clothing and some monetary assistance from family. It was hard but we didn't eat steak and lobster like I see some EBT recipients buy now. Low income people feel the entitlement to have the same items as people that work every day to make a living to survive. They want to live in affluent homes, eat high priced food such as steak and lobster but don't want to work for it. Something is wrong with this picture.
Buzz Beeler September 24, 2012 at 07:31 PM
Steve ever heard of food stamp fraud? http://www.thefiscaltimes.com/Articles/2012/05/24/Crackdown-on-Food-Stamp-Fraud-A-$750m-a-Year-Scam.aspx#page1 You'd better standing on a box, too much is going over you head.
number9dream September 24, 2012 at 07:42 PM
Most people living in poverty don't know cops who can railroad some tows and make a few bucks to send their way.
JDStuts September 24, 2012 at 07:57 PM
Towson is hardly a college town, it is too expensive. Beside, TU was primarily a teachers college through the 1940s, hardly the rambunctious hell raising types. The change was the baby boomers (always with the freakin' boomers - America's Worst Generation) and the growth of taverns that were sustainable largely due to the daytime foot traffic from the county courts/admin. To associate Towson as a college town from the period that only began around the 1960s smacks of historical ignorance.
M. Sullivan September 24, 2012 at 08:36 PM
There have been bars and college crowds in Towson for many years. I remember when the drinking age was still 18 and there were even more bars in Towson. At 2:00 the streets would regularly be packed, but there was never a riot situation. The cause of this latest riot is that the Recher management scheduled the Morgan State event during Towson's homecoming weekend. How many brain cells did this take? Is this the first year of Recher's existence? Did they not realize the potential volatile situation they were contributing to? Get a clue, Recher!
M. Sullivan September 24, 2012 at 08:47 PM
I don't think any town starts out as a "college town". But, with almost 22,000 students, many of whom live on or near campus, and with Towson's facilities expanding to the office buildings around town, as well as the close proximity of Goucher and Loyola, I think we can call Towson a college town. Cost does not matter. Boston is home to about a dozen universities and it's a lot more expensive than Towson.
Steve September 24, 2012 at 09:06 PM
What a Rube! Food Stamp Fraud is a myth just like the other myth, Voter Fraud the Tea Baggers/Faux News/Birther crowd likes to pretend exists. It's the Conservatives attempt to blame all the ails of the country on the "poor people". http://www.huffingtonpost.com/joel-berg/voter-fraud-and-food-stam_b_139225.html Thinking people don't buy it.

Pepper spray my butt. They hoodlums need a serious tuneup with a nightstick. A three day headache, some stitches and a trip to the emergency room wil remind them what happens to those who are charged with contempt of cop of felony stupidity.
Buzz Beeler September 25, 2012 at 12:26 AM
Steve, I see Joel's article struck a chord. Five comments, no tweets or posts to Facebook and one e-mail. Written in 08, things were a tad different then, remember the housing bubble. Good commnent Moe. Well stated.
Steve September 25, 2012 at 03:18 PM
It struck a bigger chord than any of your blogs. Things aren't any different. Food Stamp fraud is still a myth perpetuated by bitter old white bigots. It's the same thing with Voter Fraud. It started with Newt Gingrich calling the President the "Food Stamp President". Look at your biased link. The investigation was prompted by Darryl (Fast and Ffft.) Issa and Lyin' Ryan. It's all BS.
Parkvillehoney September 25, 2012 at 03:50 PM
Moe, maybe if discipline, manners and responsibilty were taught in the home and schools, we, as a society wouldn't be in this mess. Today, there are no rules. it is do whatever you like. I am thankful there are police officers that are there to try to keep the peace. Now we, as citizens have to pressure the courts to do their job. No more revolving door in the court system. Criminals should be given 1 pass if it is a minor crime. Any more crimes committed should result in jail time. I will be glad to pay a special tax for maintaining jails. Maybe then these criminals would realize crime doesn't pay!

The picture is becoming clearer now. My links are a myth while yours speak the truth. See if this is a myth? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/24/food-stamp-fraud-agriculture-department_n_1542034.html or this: http://www.todaysthv.com/news/article/221467/2/Crackdown-on-food-stamp-fraud Is the U.S. Government a myth? Do you believe in the FBI? http://www.fbi.gov/pittsburgh/press-releases/2012/huntington-woman-pleads-guilty-in-food-stamp-fraud-scheme
Steve September 25, 2012 at 04:13 PM
It's a Myth promulgated by Karl Rove and his cronies. http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/the-myth-of-food-stamp-snap-fraud/65mjfwx?cpkey=89debe32-71ea-4997-a16d-0ad070904996%7c%7c%7c%7c Now why don't you tell us the fable about how a friend of yours saw a lady (it's always a lady) use food stamps and get into a Escallade/BMW/Mercedes/Lexus etc. etc. (It's an Urban Legend)
Buzz Beeler September 25, 2012 at 05:25 PM
Just like you don't acknowledge Fox News I do not accept MSNBC. The links I posted dealt with the U.S. Government not MSNBC. Anther point that alludes your intellect is that I never stated that everyone that is on food stamps is committing fraud, just like in this link every family does not claim children that are not their own. http://www.examiner.com/article/illegal-aliens-get-billions-tax-credits-from-irs-for-relatives-back-mexico In your link there is one person who was impacted. I have been approached at the Giant by people on food stamps to help them commit fraud. The cashier told me what was going on and I stopped it.
Steve September 25, 2012 at 05:37 PM
Suuuure you did. ROTFLMAO "Alludes your intellect" Food Stamp fraud is less than 1% of the total expenditure. It's a myth.
Steve September 25, 2012 at 06:05 PM
The mind boggling thing is with all the problems the World faces the old, bitter Tea Baggers need to fabricate problems like "Food Stamp Fraud" and "Voter Fraud". Notice too how these always try to pick on what they perceive to be the weakest subset of society.
