UPDATE: Fatal Accident In Bel Air Causes Traffic Delays

One man was killed in the crash.

UPDATE (8:25 p.m.)—A motorcycle crash claimed the life of a Perryville man and delayed traffic in the Bel Air area Friday afternoon.

Around 2:18 p.m. a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle, and a silver 2010 Hyundai Elantra crashed in the area of Route 22 and Route 543 in Bel Air, according to a release from Maryland State Police with the Bel Air Barrack.

Police determined a 17-year-old Bel Air boy of the 200 block of Fairwood Drive was westbound in the Hyundai when he tried to turn left into Wawa, according to the release.

The car crossed in front of the motorcycle, driven by 49-year-old Monte Alonzo Greenhow of Perryville, the release states. Greenhow tried to avoid the car, but ultimately crashed into the back of it and was ejected, police say.

A helicopter was initially called to the scene, but that request was later canceled, police said.

Greenhow, of the 200 block of Thomas Point Way, was taken to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air while suffering traumatic cardiac arrest, Rich Gardiner, spokesman for Association, said. Greenhow was later pronounced dead by hospital staff, according to state police.

Neither the teenage driver nor his passengers were injured in the crash.

The eastbound lanes of Route 22 leading up to the intersection were closed to traffic as a result of the crash and traffic was being detoured onto Econ Drive. The road was reopened to traffic around 4 p.m.

It was the second crash involving a motorcycle to take place in Harford County Friday. The first took place at Route 155 and Paradise Road in Havre de Grace after noon, Gardiner said.

The accident remained under investiagion as of Friday night.

Thank you for saying that. People seem to forget that he had a family. While they constantly debate over if he was going to fast or not. Among other things. My brother was a very cautious driver, more important he was greatly loved by many. And a great man to know. I miss him. I just want to thank you for remembering GOD first and saying a prayer for him and my family. GOD bless you always.

I just wanted to say GOD bless you Heidi. Thank you for trying to save my brother. Thank you for all you do to try and help others. GOD'S blessings over you always. Your comment means the most to me. Because you were actually there and tried to help. :)

For the record it was not my brother's fault. Known fact: He had the right of way and was cut off. Nor was he speeding or in the fast lane. He was in the slow lane. By law, his being cut off, makes it the kid who was driving fault. Hopefully you know that by now. Though it won't change the fact that my brother is GONE. For someone who agreed there should be no judging. How is it that you felt it was okay to pass judgement on my brother. Who you didn't know, nor where you there when he was killed.

How sad for you both. Since my GOD is a GREAT GOD and loves us all. Even in your laughter over other peoples sorrow. May HIS blessings flow over you just the same. Have a GOD filled blessed day.
