Skateboarder Struck in Saturday Accident on Regester Ave.

Police say the 15-year-old boy was in the road when he was hit.

A 15-year-old boy was hospitalized Saturday night after he was hit by a car in Stoneleigh.

Police and paramedics were called to the 700 block of Regester Avenue at 9:57 p.m., police spokeswoman Det. Cathy Batton said.

The boy was skateboarding in the road, traveling westbound, and was hit by a car from behind.

The skateboarder was transported to Sinai Hospital with "potentially life-threatening injuries," Batton said. She did not have any information on his current condition.

Investigators will decide whether to pursue charges against the driver.

"We have to wait for the end of the investigation," she said.

Here are some skateboarding safety tips from the National Safety Council.

I live a block from where this happened. Although I hope the kid's OK, I'm not at all surprised that this happened. I have gone all "old man" on more than one group of what I'll call "stupid teenagers" skateboarding down the middle of Regester. Total disregard for the known speeding traffic, no helmets, earbuds in. Hopefully a wake-up call for him and others.
