Baltimore County Appeals Pension Ruling

A federal judge grants the county permission to seek an appeal while the damages phase of the trial continues.

Baltimore County will appeal a federal judge's ruling in October that found pension rules that charge some county employees different rates are discriminatory.

At issue is an October ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Benson Everett Legg that found that the county's pension rules requiring different contribution rates from employees based on age violates the Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967.

That ruling came after a federal appeals court overturned Legg's original ruling that was in favor of the county.

The county asked Legg for permission to seek an appeal on his current ruling while the trial enters the damages phase. The county argued in a filing that it would need as long as two years to review as many as 10,000 pension records.

County officials have been adamant in their opposition to Legg's October ruling.

"We're going to fight this until there is no one else to fight," said Don Mohler, a county spokesman, during an October interview.

More wasted time and money. No leadership and no doubt Homan is involved. The next election can't come soon enough. The sad part is people are so, how can I say this mildly, STUPID! They keep voting the same crew back into office time and time and time again and then complain when things go wrong and wrong and wrong.

It is amazing that the county continues to try to take from the employees who have earned their retirement, while white collar crime is tolerated, and even encourages by the politicians. The current county executive ramrodded changes in the "double dipping" law in the county to allow exceptions so that he and is disgraced cronies can receive 2 county pensions! Sam Moxley, twice convicted drunken driver while holding elected office as a County Councilman, will benifit from this moral abuse of power. This is a disgraceful act by morally corrupt politicians

"We're going to fight this until there is no one else to fight," said Don Mohler, a county spokesman" And then you will pay as well have wasted my dollars pursuing the appeal. That does qualify as idiocy at the very top.

FIFA, good comment. Someone from another department filed suit today. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-county/bs-md-co-ada-lawsuit-20121219,0,3781521.story They just won't learn like a repeat offender. If the feds come in again the sky is the limit in the costs to the county can be huge.

It was never mentioned anything about their own pensions that they voted in without any input from their constituents. This was intended to be partime jobs to benefit their jurisdictions, not to only benefit themselves. Every sneaky underhanded thing they do appears to either benefit themselves and their cronies. Now they are proposing to trade, sell and barter county land, make radical changes to our schools and facilities. What you say is true they need to be voted out and some citizens that will represent the people, not themselves. Leroy Brazelton

Pensions for elected politicians at all levels is a dirty little secret that needs the light of day. From the county council to those that move on to Annapolis and beyond they only add to their pensions. I do wonder how much the annointed "Dutch" will finally get when he stops sucking from the trough.

reader: probably at least a half million plus health insurance for life and other perks you alluded to in the dirty little secrets part of your reply.

They love to trample and ignore the Consent Decree Laws on other pensioners, but not their own, that they created and approved. They believe they are exempt for what their constituents must abide to and can change them at their whim anytime they wish.

That's the problem. When I ran for office against Olszewske, Sr. all of a sudden I notice speed bumps appearing in the neighborhoods and rat eradication programs taking place. This was never done before until I made it an issue. There is too much advantage for the incumbent. He gets to use county money to fight his opponent. The people get what they vote for as they say.

"This was never done before until I made it an issue." Once again, It's all about Beeker.....

I'm still waiting for your evidence on your claim about the vets. Go back and check for yourself. Prior to the year I ran and made the rat issue one of my agenda's the county did not pay for rat eradication. They did not push it because no one yelled loud enough. You're always the mouth a one gold tooth mouth with a buss ticket headed south except you can't back it up, the mouth I mean.

I have a simple four word definition of these so called "public servants". They are simply 1, Liars (there lips move), 2.Whores (they will take money from all corners), 3. Cowards (they refuse to truly do the right thing for all people, only what is politically in their best interest for reelection purposes) and 4. Panderers ( to any group who they feel they can count on for votes.)

When you learn respect of others then I'll render respect to you. I have tried many times in dealing with you. You just keep coming back with the wisecracks. I have posted some of your comments so others can see what I deal with. You want to be a man or then act like one. I don't ever recall you commenting on anything constructive. It's always the wisecracks towards me. After almost two years you act like a child, you will treated as such.

What are you doing about it Jim..?
Buck Harmon December 22, 2012 at 02:07 PM
All the kings horses and all the kings men won't fix these problems...why would they? Public apathy rules and until campaign finance reform happens we are all Humpty Dumpties...

THANX Buzz for your attention to details. The County is out of control in spending taxpayers money, there is a LACK of leadership (KK can put a stop to some of this stuff) in wasting our tax dollars in all these appeals. He promised to do just that but it never came about.
Buzz Beeler January 02, 2013 at 09:16 PM
Thanks John and you are correct in your evaluation.
