An expansion of the Green Streets, Green Towns, Green Jobs Initiative is scheduled to be announced in Baltimore on Wednesday.
Gov. Martin O’Malley is set to announce $3 million in funds to help expand the program, which provides grants to local governments and nonprofits to add green space and reduce runoff, according to a news release.
"By increasing tree canopy, and capturing and filtering rainwater, G3 projects help communities meet water quality and greenhouse reduction goals, improve livability and economic vitality, and create green jobs," the release reads.
The Environmental Protection Agency and the Chesapeake Bay Trust will also be part of the announcement, but a spokeswoman for the Trust declined to discuss details ahead of the event.
