Memorial Field for Slain Notre Dame Grad Gets Funded

Thanks to another grant from a Texas nonprofit, Notre Dame Prep can build the Yeardley Reynolds Love Turf Field next year.

Thanks to a new grant from a Texas nonprofit, will begin construction on a new turf field to honor one of its graduates.

The $165,000 from the Charles T. Bauer Foundation means the Hampton school will break ground next spring for the Yeardley Reynolds Love Turf Field, the school announced Thursday. It will be constructed during the summer.

“We are deeply grateful to the Charles T. Bauer Foundation for helping Notre Dame Prep and The One Love Foundation, which Love’s family created, close the gap between funds previously raised for the field and the money necessary to begin actual construction,” Sister Patricia McCarron, Notre Dame's headmistress, said in a statement. “This project honors both Yeardley’s love of sports and her connection to her alma mater, and it keeps her spirit alive at NDP forever.”

Love, a lacrosse player at NDP who went to the University of Virginia, was killed in May 2010 in her off-campus apartment. The Cockeysville native was 22. Her ex-boyfriend stands accused in her death.

In 2010, the Bauer foundation issued a challenge grant for the $1.2 million field project and an in Love's name.
