School System Canceling Marching Band Showcase

The annual performance was scheduled for Stevenson University on Sunday.

As a precaution against impending inclement weather, county school system officials have canceled the Baltimore County Marching Band Showcase scheduled for Sunday.

The performance, which was to take place at Stevenson University's Mustang Stadium, would have featured Towson, Woodlawn, Dulaney, Loch Raven, Milford Mill, Patapsco, Perry Hall, Sparrows Point, Franklin and New Town high schools.

The Stevenson University and Morgan State University marching bands were also slated to play at the 24th annual showcase.

Officials announced the cancelation on the Baltimore County Public Schools website. No postponement date is listed as of Saturday night.

Hurricane Sandy—which some call 'Frankenstorm'—is expected to strike the East Coast late Sunday into early Monday. Power outages, heavy winds and flooding are anticipated.

Mychael Dickerson, a school system spokesman, said that no decision has yet been made on Monday school closures.
