WJZ: CBS Anchor Pelley Speaks at TU Graduation

Pelley sends off graduates little more than a week before taking anchor chair.

Barely a week before he takes a step up of his own, CBS anchor Scott Pelley cheered on Towson University graduates on Wednesday as they collected their diplomas, WJZ reports.

Pelley spoke at the commencement for Towson's College of Fine Arts and Communications. Pelley will debut as host of the CBS Evening News on June 6, succeeding Katie Couric. He was invited to Towson by Bill Owens, his "60 Minutes" producer and a Towson graduate.

“When the question is a lie, answer with the truth,” Pelley told the graduates. “And when the test says ‘Stop here,’ you say ‘Go on.'"

Pelley isn't the only guest speaker at Towson's graduations. Pulitzer winner Taylor Branch will receive an honorary degree and speak at the commencement for the College of Liberal Arts on Thursday afternoon. Towson's graduation ceremonies will continue through Friday.

Very inspirational speech from Scott Pelley. I was honored to be one of the many graduates in that ceremony.
