Baltimore Orioles legend Brooks Robinson has been discharged from , the hospital announced Thursday night.
Robinson had been hospitalized since March 31, when he developed an infection and fever. His release follows a successful round of surgery and antibiotics.
"I wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers and outpouring of compassion and concern during my recent illness," Robinson said in a statement released by the hospital. "The doctors, nurses and staff at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center did an outstanding job of caring for me and I am well on my way to a full recovery."
After the hall of fame third baseman was hospitalized, many fans called and wrote GBMC, which set up a for well-wishers. The hospital received 530 messages from fans in 25 states and as far away as Australia. Hospital officials hand-delivered to Robinson binders filled with the printed emails.
"Connie and I were overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support we received," Robinson said in the statement. "The staff at GBMC assembled several books of emails received from around the world and we have spent countless hours reading your kind words of encouragement. We wish that we could personally respond to everyone with our gratitude.”
