Common Digestive Problems

Do you suffer from stomach upset, gas or bloating? Do you have questions about heartburn, abdominal pain, chronic constipation or, even, colon cancer?

Digestive problems are very common. Typical gastrointestinal complaints include gas, bloating, and abdominal pain. Several things could be causing these issues, including bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine.  In many instances, the bacterial overgrowth is often mistaken for Irritable Bowel Syndrome and not properly treated. However, a simple breath test can be done to help determine an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.

A Hydrogen Breath Test uses the measurement of hydrogen in the breath to diagnose several conditions that cause common GI symptoms.  The test involves blowing into a breath analyzer, which measures the patient’s baseline Hydrogen level. The patient then drinks an 8 oz. solution of Lactulose.  The breath analyzer is used again to collect breaths at 15-minute intervals for 90 minutes.

Patient’s who test positive for Hydrogen are treated with antibiotics. The antibiotic treatment usually gives the patient great relief. Sometimes the bacteria may reoccur and will need to be treated again.
