Come cheer on some of Maryland's top athletes this weekend in Towson as the Maryland Special Olympics hosts its Summer Games on the campus of .
The festivities begin with Friday's opening ceremony (featuring an appearance by Olympics figure skater Kimmie Meissner) and competition continues Saturday and Sunday.
The games will feature 1,400 Special Olympics athletes and 200 "unified partners" in events including bocce, softball, track and field and aquatics.

Due to construction at Johnny Unitas Stadium, this year's track and field events will be held at Coppin State University. Some softball events will also be held at Cockeysville Middle Schoool.
All events are free and open to the public.
