I'm shocked that any one would characterize the American Legion as a tax exempt drinking club. AndRead More to say it isn't an asset to the community is pretty ridiculous Roger. It seems to me there are community events there every weekend. They are also a major supporter of the Towson Parade. The Towson Recreation Council also heavily uses the Legion baseball field there. Most of the Legion's new members are Iraqi and Afghanistan vets many of whom served several tours. It is a place of comraderie, healing and common bonds that most folks who haven't served would not understand like you, Roger
Roger June 11, 2013 at 09:46 pm
A performance artist. If you could express your shock with a straight face you might get a leadingRead More role in Casablanca. Victor, Sanchez and the other haters too. You know it's a drinking club and so does everyone else. SInce we agree on that I will say I support the good work that the many VFWs and Fleet Reserves do across the country for our citizens. But if a plan for intense smart development of the parcel in Towson is proposed I will support it for the good of the community. The post can be anywhere and do good work.

Well said. Roger for County Exec!

What do folks think would do well in this location? Chipotle?
Needaname June 6, 2013 at 08:37 pm
Today walking by Big Sue's two well dressed men where peering inside. Someone walked by and saidRead More told the men Big Sues has closed. Their response was 'the food was really good'.
Poster June 11, 2013 at 06:07 pm
I am not sure anyone really appreciates the size of this location. Things like Chipotle, coffeeRead More shop, etc. would not be able to afford or utilize the entire space of this location.
Roger June 2, 2013 at 09:57 am
No comments fro the wing nuts? I think you are fools for your silence but you can leave a shortRead More comment ( or long one with lots of CAPS!) and remove all doubt.
Gerri Leder June 2, 2013 at 02:39 pm
This did not ring true to me and suggest readers google the study. You will see that Utah isRead More actually the overall winner, for fostering business growth and creating jobs. Article is correct that Maryland was tops in innovation, thanks to the innovative programs at MD universities, including UMBC and the Dingman Center/U-MD.
KimberlyKlacik June 7, 2013 at 11:19 am
Absolutely! I have recently incorporated my nonprofit, Potential Me, here in Baltimore. So far IRead More have received so much support from our community. The beauty of Maryland is having DC right next door. Lets face it, DC isn't really feeling the economic backlash. For myself, jumping in and out of an affluent city helps my cause. Please check us out Potential-Me.com. I may be a lot younger than most nonprofit founders, but I am determined to take my organization to the top on a national level. Btw, great article 

Looks like someone was popular at Mardi Gras.
Bonnie Hauge April 26, 2013 at 06:59 pm
Not saying that Ms. Pinheiro is not qualified, but what work/volunteer/educational experience doesRead More she bring to this position? Just asking. (p.s. I like her beads)
JDStuts April 25, 2013 at 02:02 pm
Umm, what part of my name don't you get? Maybe you've mistakenly spelled my last name backwards?
JDStuts April 25, 2013 at 03:05 pm
You mean like a comprehensive plan? What are you high? Those standards sap a developers bottomRead More line. No, no, the blank wall of Towson Commons greeting you northbound on York Road is as good as it gets.
Laurie TMV April 28, 2013 at 05:19 pm
What on Earth is Towson going to do once it's sold off every square inch of space to developers, orRead More converted every space to yet another noisy or densely populated area? The traffic is mind numbing. Back in 1987 (actually before) Baltimore Co. declared that no addition structures, adding to population density and traffic would be allowed. York Rd. and Burke Ave. had already been declared "a failing intersection". We have MORE density right at that location. I can't wait to get out if here, and hear this sentiment echoed by Towson Manor Village residents again and again. Councilman Marks has got be kidding when he continues to work to build on every square inch and seems it "family friendly". He lives in Perry Hall.
Craig Parker April 3, 2013 at 01:40 am
Just to clarify…. For 57 years my family owned and operated a successful, full service, foodRead More market specializing in prime beef, poultry, Smithfield hams and fresh seafood. Personalized service, prime beef cut to order, and a family atmosphere was the foundation of the grocery business that was established by my grandfather, Joseph S. Parker, in 1942. In April of 1999, I made the decision to close Parker’s, Towson’s Complete Food Market, to spend more time with my family. Subsequently, the building was leased to Ridgely & Ferrens. After 13 years of tenancy, the time had come to make a change and breathe new life into the property. I have no doubt Big Sue’s Kitchen will be a welcome addition to Allegheny Avenue and the Towson business community. Fred and Sue Dixon have core business values that are similar to those my grandfather built his business on.

When LA took over from Bally, everyone had to sign new contracts. I'm wondering if there isRead More something in the contract that would prevent me from using the new club. I'd better get out my magnifying glass and read the small print. I still smell a rat.
RTBalt April 1, 2013 at 09:10 pm
I didn't have to switch contracts (i.e. from Bally's to LA Fitness); mine was grandfathered. IRead More didn't cancel when Towson Circle closed; after reading this I'm glad I kept the membership.
D Schmid April 1, 2013 at 10:32 pm
I read the fine print on the contract. Under Membership types: Note: If you are an existing BallyRead More member with a "local" Bally membership or "National" Bally membership, that membership will be honored to provide you with access to the acquired Bally club locations and the LA Fitness in your state of enrollment (for "local") or in all states (for "National). However, access does NOT include current or future clubs designated as "Signature" or "Athletic" clubs. Future club locations or brands may be excluded at the discretion of LA Fitness. Wanna bet the new club with be either a Signature or Athletic club? If so, it doesn't matter what type of membership you have.

Sounds like Mr. Brooks needs to get a life.
Paul Dungarey April 26, 2013 at 06:20 pm
"Are you ignorant or just plain stupid". Please back that statement up.
wilbur jones April 29, 2013 at 03:22 am
Mr Brooks wants some free publicity. Everyone keeps worrying about a night club in Towson but no oneRead More is saying anything about the BIG PROJECT right behind the Recher that will have a 16 screen movies and at least 6 new restaurants. The fact that CVP has had problems shows you that its not what the venue is. IT IS THE ALCOHOL.
Zoobie April 22, 2013 at 04:37 am
"The CBF has no offices in Baltimore County ". Who's not affected. Baltimore Co. or TheRead More C.B.F. ? This horse has been beaten to death. Beem me up Scottie!
kevin May 17, 2013 at 06:05 pm
Now I know your being fed your posts. You aren't that sm ,well let's say you usually just come outRead More and fib .steve what date is on your Facts ? When did Virginia successfully win case against EPA ? Jauary 10th 2013 .The fact is they can't EPA that is levy a tax legally on any jurisdiction .If Challenged they'e lost . Your going to use semantics and say something your handlers tell you .Fact is many different fees we pay even the Flush tax cover water.Your handlers don't want the public to get together and sue so they keep throwing out diversions .
kevin May 17, 2013 at 06:19 pm
Wow great diversion sort of like :"what does it matter now " . People first KK devisedRead More formula for Baltimore county .Why is non -profit smaller ? Very simple what they are doing won't stand up in court. But are citizens going to join together and sue?Probably not, but say a church with a NATIONAL charity legal office ? You better believe the lawsuits were being drawn up .KK new this and backed off enough to make a difference.See it's hard for a national charity to sue if residents are paying much more .Steve will tell you this state does this and evrything else .But facts are we already cover those in other fees which have tripled .This is theft pure and simple it won't see the bay it is already budgeted to pay for general funds. The answer to stop this tax is throw out officials next time, but for now is there any lawyer who could tell us how to file a suit against EPA ,B.C. or state of Maryland for NOT protecting us and stopping tax? KK changed because he was totally afraid of national charities coming after him. That is closer to any fact your going to get from Steve and his band of alias that follow .

How are your boss's bodyguards and vehicle working out, Don?
Bart April 13, 2013 at 12:44 am
Bryan Sears: Please remove this comment from "Concerned Citizen". Our politiciansRead More deserve scrutiny, but not juvenile name-calling from some anonymous critic. The Patch deserves better quality discussion than this.
DAVID PATRO SR April 13, 2013 at 10:22 pm
zach compromise is for all partys to talk now we need to stop the sale . stop the sale SAY NORead More to the proposed sale of North Point Government Center PARK!
Ashley Virginia April 10, 2013 at 04:10 pm
The RFP That was made open to the Public when this all began was foggy itself and also was veryRead More misleading. Brian Sheppard told us that thye will infor the bidder they choose of what they have to build when their bid is accepted, probably more lies from his end.
Steve April 10, 2013 at 04:39 pm
It was an open RFP request. The bidders are free to respond to the RFP and they can always includeRead More a Value Added Proposal (VAP) which will also be evaluated. They may even have a BAFO.
Ashley Virginia April 11, 2013 at 01:09 pm
The Open RFP Never mentions Lynch Cove at all. Unless the bidders already knew about it theyRead More wouldn't know it existed. And both bidders to my knowledge have issues with the Tower remaining where it is. Both own commercial properties, do we really need more empty shopping centers in dundalk?
Paul Dongarra April 3, 2013 at 01:01 pm
Buzz, yes you are correct, Smith did back the Councilperson during the election. Regarding,Read More however, the Whalen Southwest pavilion PUD though, the developer's legal counsel are G. Scott Barhight of Whiteford, Taylor, and Preston (referred to in the Statement of Facts) and Deborah C Dopkins. The CZMP issue #1-008 (referred to in one of the referenced articles) was represented, I believe by Lawrence Schmidt of Gildea, Schmidt, and yes Smith. I was at the meeting when the council voted on all the CZMP issues and witnessed all the Tammany Hall style congratulatory backslapping among these people first hand. If anyone wants to see this first hand how a community is run over by our system attend the Kenwood Garden Community's Appeal of this PUD on APril the 23rd, 10 am, Hearing Room #2, second floor, suite 206, Jefferson BLDG. 105 W. Chesapeake AVE. Towson. You will be shocked by what you see.
Diane Iacia April 22, 2013 at 12:01 pm
Is this still correct ? **** Kenwood Garden Community's Appeal of this PUD on APril the 23rd, 10 am,Read More Hearing Room #2, second floor, suite 206, Jefferson BLDG. 105 W. Chesapeake AVE. Towson. You will be shocked by what you see.
kevin May 16, 2013 at 10:34 pm
See on Taylor avenue there is a school maybe you heard of it "School of The Blind?" KidsRead More there read and understood exactly what KK wanted for his developers. It's Buy Low Sell high time for All developers in Baltimore County.
Christine May 17, 2013 at 08:09 pm
Finally, someone with something constructive to say. Would it work? Who knows? But even if itRead More failed, it could make some of these legislators sit up and take notice of their opposition.
Christine May 17, 2013 at 08:11 pm
This is very true. And it will hit many of us consumers twice: we'l have to pay the extra moneyRead More out of empty pockets AND we'll have to absorb price increases on our goods because the vendor's costs increase. Wht exactly was the goal of this tax increase?
Christine May 17, 2013 at 08:15 pm
I'm sorry, but I could hardly read your comment. Did you forget all your punctuation? It does notRead More support your point of view when you don't even use simple sentences. It makes you sound like you can't write correctly and therefore may not be that bright, regardless of whether you an Einstein or developmentally disabled.
tom carter March 31, 2013 at 11:12 pm
What will the price be when the price of gas goes up because of oil refineries have problems orRead More environmental problems, like it does every year. Truckers have to pay for that tax as and trucks bring stuff to stores and the truckers will charge more to the stores and they will charge higher prices to their customers.Expect the immediate effect will be higher pricesfor pizza and taxis almost immediate with Fedex and UPS coming shortly after then storesto follow after

Ian Brett Cooper March 31, 2013 at 01:57 pm
A 20 cent tax on every gallon of gasoline, and it evokes this sort of reaction? Diddums!
McGibblets March 31, 2013 at 02:09 pm
Everyone is different and everyone reacts to things differently. Maybe people are sick of beingRead More told what percentage of their income is going to be pirated by the govt. Maybe people want a govt that represents them rather than one that controls them. Diddums that you dont care or respect others wishes... or that you find their concerns sarcastically sad.
Dr. Dave March 31, 2013 at 06:54 pm
There already is one, Sam. It's called "Change Maryland" and it's at changemaryland dotRead More org.
JBD March 21, 2013 at 02:40 pm
They have some of the nicest employees. While I don't use Eddies for my 'full weekly shopping',Read More they can be counted on for quality and and a pleasant experience. So glad you're in walking distance to my house!
wilbur jones March 23, 2013 at 09:06 am
Hey M. Sullivan lets see first its about normal dogs and then its garbage about a nightclub. OpenRead More your eyes because by next year you are going to have a 16 screen movies and at least 5 new restaurants all opening in Towson. The more comments I see from you the more I can see how closed minded you all. Oh I almost forgot, this comment is for normal people only.
M. Sullivan March 23, 2013 at 05:10 pm
Yea Wilbur, let's see what state Towson Commons 2 will be in five years from now. Change is notRead More always good. Oh, also, I consider normal dogs to be the kind that are not known for tearing children to pieces. Normal enough for you?
KJF1 March 24, 2013 at 02:21 pm
I feel like the brothers have always been upstanding businessmen in this community. When there haveRead More been problems they have acted responsibly. It's a shame that this area which has struggled for decades can't support one of the few businesses that against odds has survived through the storm of crappy management of The Commons, restaurants that come and go, and boarded up storefronts. All the while, just up the road, leaving the Asian massage whorehouse with the bailbonds business in the same building. Stellar businesses for a family community for sure.
Steve March 12, 2013 at 04:47 pm
The power was out in Towson last week too. I tried to take my wife to dinner at 7 West and they wereRead More closed due to a power outage.
Ed February 23, 2013 at 04:16 am
But stuts, I just found out the new site is near the county government buildings, not the TowsonRead More Manor park. There are very few homes near the currently planned site. I do not understand the concerns about the new fire site.
LiveWork Towson February 23, 2013 at 01:19 pm
I appreciate Marks' efforts on this matter. While the legislation is limitted in scope, it is meantRead More to protect a local historic community without imposing rules that would make further development throughout Towson overly burdensome. Marks worked with community leaders and refined this bill based on feedback received. While it may not be perfect or ideal, it will address the current issues and prevent future similar problems in that particular area of town.
Mike Pierce February 24, 2013 at 06:22 pm
Thanks to David Marks for pushing this issue. Now if Code Enforcement actually enforces the law asRead More written, rather than dreaming up every excuse they can for not enforcing it, as they have in other cases. I predict that, within a year, the Council will need to revise it to get enforcement as intended.
