Governor Martin O'Malley is meeting with faith-based groups to come up with solutions for sheltering immigrant children.

So sick of politicians using anything and everything to get them noticed. We should not even beRead More talking about this and would not be if our borders were as protected as the American people are made to believe. Our country is in great need, perhaps that 1% haven't noticed but children in this country go to bed every night hungry and homeless. I am sorry that these immigrant children are suffering in their country but until we take care of our own, I fail to see the rationale in taking on someone else's problems. We are fast becoming a country full of opportunists and let's not even get into how DUMB we are. Very sad....

Where is the true Christian, and humanitarian in Carroll County. I basedRead More it on how funds from the Maryland lottery were handled (i.e. the same which are occurring now with the casinos) and other areas (such as Las Vegas and Atlantic City) whose area casinos haven’t been a benefit. The majority of Maryland citizens brought the idea that casino revenue would help horse racing and education. In December, I twice saw the same M.O. in front of the Green Turtle at White Marsh Mall just priorRead More to the mall closing.... As I was waiting for my wife in my car in the "waiting zone". I saw an 1990's mini van pull up with North Carolina tags (fully tinted windows). A guy in a very expensive, new Mercedes Benz with New Jersey tags was parked at the front of the "waiting zone"; a Middle Eastern looking guy got out of the mini van's passenger seat and quickly ran down to the Mercedes Benz and talked to the guy. The guy in the Mercedes got out (he was well dressed brown skinned man). They both walked up to the mini van and the side door was pulled open by the Middle Eastern guy. Two Asian girls (in their 20's) dressed with warm weather type clothes (in the middle of the winter) got out and put their heads down and were quickly led to the Mercedes Benz and got in the backseat. The Mercedes instantly pulled off and the mini van went the other way. I right off the bat thought this looked like trafficking and it probably was. Exactly a week after that, on another Friday night I was in the same spot waiting for my wife again... and the same exact M.O. happened again. This time it was a beat up mini van with Virginia tags with two Middle Eastern looking guys and they did exactly the same thing. This time it looked like two Hispanic girls. Two older, white guys took the girls into their really nice SUV and drove off fast.

Legalize it, and there will be plenty of voluntary participants, so no one will need to kidnapRead More anyone. It's not a difficult concept.

Pfui. I own my home without a mortgage. But my property taxes are sky high. I have no kids inRead More public schools. I am 64. I drive less than 10,000 miles per year. I am being taxed out of my home. It seems to me that I am a slave of Gov MOM's government. Human trafficking? Martin is knee deep into it.

I'm dismayed by some of the heartless comments to this article. Despite what you may think or judgeRead More about the mother, there are two children who have not made any bad choices and who should have the same opportunities as other kids. I think the next-to-last paragraph is telling - poverty and broken families are cyclical, and I'll bet that Ms. Ward did the best any of us would have done under the circumstances. We can either turn a cold shoulder or we can help break that cycle. My thoughts are with her and her children.

I wonder if I could contact the shelter to help donate.

Funny how one's position on these things can change once, through a series of unfortunate events,Read More one has the opportunity to experience this type of thing first hand. I once harbored some of the thoughts posted here about folks who end up in this situation. Then I got poisoned by a dr prescribed med (Gov fined them 500m), was out of work six months, lost my home, had to file bankruptcy, and was dumped by my 20 year wife. For 7 years I've been one paycheck away from homeless. I got to see that compassionate capitalism is no very compassionate. There are zero second chances even if it was through no fault of your own. Life happens, life happens to all of us. It would be easy to wish life happening to some of the posters on here, but really wouldn't want to see anyone have to go through it. God has blessed these two children with a very strong mother.
