Baltimore County Superintendent Dallas Dance announced the visit earlier this month, noting that gun control is a topic Duncan is passionate about. U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan is making a third trip to Baltimore County—this time to discuss gun control. "This is a topic he's been very passionate about," said Dallas Dance, superintendent of Baltimore County Public Schools. Duncan will hold a town hall meeting at Loch Raven High School on April 10. The U.S. Department of Education announced Tuesday the 16 school district winners that will share the $400 million grant.
Baltimore County Public Schools and Baltimore City Public Schools, finalists in the Race to the Top-District Competition, were not among the districts selected to partake in a $400 million grant to improve schools. Had they been selected, the local school districts would have received four-year awards ranging from $10 to $40 million dollars, based on the number of students served. U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has chosen Perry Hall High, Baltimore County's largest public high school, as the backdrop for a major education announcement. School officials and more than 800 English teachers are expected to greet Duncan at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 22, inside the school at 4601 Ebenezer Rd., Principal George Roberts confirmed.
