Although Falls Church High School Football Coach Said Aziz thinks the 49ers are going to win the Super Bowl, he hopes Smith, who he coached in 2005, has a great game.
Ask Falls Church High School Head Football Coach Said Aziz whom he thinks will win Super Bowl XLVII and he won’t hesitate to say it’s the San Francisco 49ers. Aziz, however, does want to his former Stafford High School player and now Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith, to have a good game. In 2005 when Smith was quarterback at Stafford in Northern Virginia, Aziz was the offensive line coach and defensive coordinator. “He was a really good kid,” Aziz said Friday. “I do want Torrey to have a good game.” According to the Ravens website, before playing his college football at the University of Maryland, Smith earned honorable mention All-Northwest Region as a quarterback his senior year. In a video, 71-year-old Gene Miller imitates Ray Lewis' "squirrel dance".
The Baltimore Ravens have settled in down in New Orleans and they're getting ready to take on the 49ers in the Super Bowl; meanwhile, back at home, retirees at Oak Crest are getting ready to cheer on the home team. In this YouTube video, titled "Super Dreams", 71-year-old Oak Crest resident Gene Miller leads the Oak Crest team in performing the Ravens pre-game ritual, including his own version of Ray Lewis' famous "squirrel dance". "I've been a Baltimore sports fan since 1965, and this year's Ravens team has been as exciting as any I've seen," Miller said in a press release. When we posted the first video, Patch commenters identified the band's guitarist as a member of a band that played at The Barn. Watch their Super Bowl themed Ravens video.
First it was "Bring On Brady" but, with the AFC Championship locked up and the Super Bowl less than a week away, once again Matt Robins has uploaded a Ravens-themed cover song to YouTube. Last time around Robins, his wife Sarah, and dad Stan Robins, came up with an inventive cover of Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe." Now they take on Fun.'s "Some Nights" with a Baltimore twist. Fans gathered at the Inner Harbor to cheer on the Ravens as they left for New Orleans on Monday. The Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers meet at the Superdome on Sunday.
The ice and rain Monday morning didn't stop the Baltimore faithful from crowding the Inner Harbor to rally around the Ravens as they departed for New Orleans and Super Bowl XLVII. Lucky kids who got off school sat on shoulders, 20-somethings belted Ravens chants and several of the football players themselves were seen snapping photos and video of the send-off. Future Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis gave credit to the fans, without whom the franchise would not exist. It wasn't really Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis appearing on Saturday Night Live's "Weekend Update" over the weekend, but Keenan Thompson stood in effectively. Despite playing in New England, fans came in big numbers to watch Ravens earn the franchise's second Super Bowl trip. The head coach and players noticed.
John Harbaugh smiled plenty throughout Monday's news conference. Considering his team is headed to the Super Bowl a week from Sunday, that's no surprise. But the Ravens coach really beamed when the conversation turned to Baltimore's fans. Harbaugh and his team were both delighted at the large number of Baltimore fans that went up to New England and watched the Ravens beat the Patriots, 28-13, in last Sunday's AFC title game. "We might have had one-eighth of the crowd, which is really a high number for a visiting AFC Championship game.
