Sparrows Point Company Hiring for Virginia Tunnel Project

Information session about jobs available will be held Feb. 28 at CCBC Essex.

SKW Constructors has announced it will hire as many as 100 direct employees at its Sparrows Point Shipyard and Industrial Park site. The company will also hire subcontractors that will hire additional carpenters, concrete finishers, mechanics, ironworkers, surveyors, truck drivers and laborers. The company has a contract to provide fans and huge reinforced concrete tubes for tunnels being built in Hampton Roads, VA, according to a statement from Baltimore County Government. "We are thrilled SKW is bringing jobs back to the Point," Baltimore County Councilman John Olszewski Sr said in the statement. Dance Recommends Eastwood Elementary Closure

The school system superintendent's staff presented the recommendation to the Board of Education Tuesday night.

School system Superintendent Dallas Dance recommended the closure of Eastwood Elementary School in Dundalk at a Tuesday night Board of Education meeting As part of the recommendation, Eastwood, Norwood Elementary School and Holabird Middle school will operate as one K-8 school on the Norwood and Holabird campuses. The closure of the Eastwood facility is part of a larger plan by County Executive Kevin Kamenetz to sell property to construct new county buildings. The Eastwood property may be used for a new police precinct. A public hearing on the consolidation is scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 12 at Dundalk High School. Middle River Man Sentenced for Killing Dundalk Man

John Leschefscky was sentenced to 30 years for the murder of Jeffrey Jennings.

A Middle River man was sentenced Friday in Baltimore County Circuit Court for the murder of a Dundalk man. John Leschefscky received 30 years for the Sept. 11, 2011, murder of Jeffrey Jennings, 57, who was killed at his Grey Haven Road home, according to a statement from Baltimore County State's Attorney Scott D. Shellenberger. Leschefscky, who in November pled guilty to the crime, was also sentenced to a five-year consecutive term for a separate conspiracy to distribute charge. Baltimore County Circuit Court Judge Mickey Norman issued the sentence. Jennings died of blunt force trauma. After killing Jennings, Leschefscky disposed of his body in a wooded area near Bengies Road in Middle River, according to the statement. The body was …

Dundalk's Kevin Clash On Leave As Voice of Elmo

The Dundalk High School graduate stands accused of sexual impropriety.

Turner Station native Kevin Clash, the puppeteer who has endeared himself to countless children as the voice of Sesame Street muppet Elmo, has taken a leave of absence from his job amid allegations of sexual impropriety. The Dundalk High School graduate, long a supporter of philanthropic efforts in his hometown, stands accused of having sex with a then-16-year-old boy, according to TMZ. The reports says the unidentified accuser, now 23, claims that he and Clash had a sexual relationship when he was 16 and Clash was 45. Clash reportedly admitted to TMZ that he did have a sexual relationship with his accuser, but only after the man turned 18. Police Identify Victim, Officer Involved in Dundalk Shooting

Joshua Michael Lopez, 22, of La Marque, Texas, died when he was shot by Baltimore County Police Department Officer Heins of the North Point Precinct.

Baltimore County police Monday identified a man shot and killed by police in Dundalk Sunday morning, as well the officer who fired his weapon. The man, identified as Joshua Michael Lopez, 22, of La Marque, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer who fired his weapon is Officer Heins, an 11-and-a-half-year veteran of the department, currently assigned to North Point Precinct 12. Baltimore County police do not release the first names of officers involved in shooting incidents. Girl Missing From Dundalk Located, Home Safely

Nyaira Sherri McMillion, 16, had been missing since Aug. 17.

Nyaira Sherri McMillion, a 16-year-old girl missing since Aug. 17, when she was last seen at her grandmother's Dundalk home, has been located and returned safely to her home. Lt. Robert McCullough of the Baltimore County Police Department issued a statement late Wednesday night that said the girl had been found and thanked the community for its efforts in locating the girl.

Police Looking for Teen Missing from Dundalk

Nyaira Sherri McMillion, 16, was last seen Aug. 17 at her grandmother's Dundalk home.

The Baltimore County Police Department is asking for the community's assistance in locating a 16-year-old girl last seen in the Dundalk area. Nyaira Sherri McMillion, 16, has been missing since Aug. 17, when she was last seen at her grandmother's Dundalk home, according to a statement from the police department. McMillion is a black female, 5-foot-3, about 162 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a white and pink striped blouse, capri jeans of an unknown color and silver strapped sandals. The teenager is known to frequent the Hillendale and Dundalk areas. Since her disappearance on Aug. 17, McMillion has not been heard from, including through social networks. She has never been reported missing before, and …
