Alleged Gang Member Testifies in Towson Mall Murder Trial

Tyrone Brown, 21, faces first-degree murder charges for allegedly gunning down a 19-year-old just before Christmas 2011.

Suspected gang member Jermell Brandon testified on Friday that Tyrone Brown, 21, was the gunman in a murder at the Towson Town Center just before Christmas 2011. Brandon, as part of a plea deal that will give him the possibility of parole after serving 20 years, testified in Baltimore County Circuit Court that Brown gunned down Rodney Pridget, 19, at the mall to avenge the robbery and shooting of a cousin of a Black Guerilla Family member. Brandon, 36, told the jury he saw Brown follow Pridget out of the mall, and was told by his associates that Brown shot Pridget. Defense Attorneys in Phylicia Barnes Murder Seek New Trial

Attorneys question state's key witness, jury's verdict.

Lawyers representing the man who was convicted of killing 16-year-old Phylicia Barnes are asking for a new trial, the Baltimore Sun reports.  Attorneys for Michael Maurice Johnson say that the state made improper statements and withheld information about its main witness, James McCray, who testified that Johnson asked for help disposing of Barnes’ body. According to the Sun, McCray gave the wrong date of the crime and the wrong floor for Johnson’s apartment, Prosecutors, however, said he did know details about the defendant that had not been released to the press, for example, that Johnson called Barnes “little sis.” A jury took two days to convict Johnson of second-degree murder; he faces 30 years in prison. Police Charge Annapolis Man in Owings Mills Homicide

Jeffrey Michael Shiflett is charged in the death of Katie Hadel.

Baltimore County Police have charged an Annapolis man with murder in the death of Owings Mills resident Katie Hadel. Jeffrey Michael Shiflett, 33, of the 1700 block of Saint Margarets Road in Annapolis, is charged with one count of first-degree murder, according to a Baltimore County Police press release. He was arrested without incident Wednesday morning shortly after 11 a.m. when an officer spotted him walking on the street in the Reisterstown area, police said. He is currently being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center. Police found the body of Hadel, 33, in her apartment on the unit block of Wellhaven Circle Tuesday night while responding to a domestic disturbance report. Two Men Arrested in 2009 Randallstown Homicide

Baltimore County police arrested Eric Isaiah Johnson and Leonard Briscoe last week.

Baltimore County police arrested two men last week in the Sept. 30, 2009, stabbing death of Rodney Lewis in his Randallstown home. On Jan. 2, police arrested Eric Isaiah Johnson, according to a news release. Then, on Jan. 3, police arrested Leonard Briscoe. Both have been charged with first-degree murder. At about 4 p.m. Sept. 30, 2009, officers went to the Lewis' residence in the 9500 block of Liberty Road. During their investigation, police found out that Johnson was staying with Lewis and Lewis' wife. Lansdowne Man Gets 115 Years in Teen's Halloween Murder

Sterlin Matthews, 19, of Lansdowne, was sentenced Thursday to 115 years in prison for killing a 16-year-old boy on Halloween in Baltimore Highlands in 2010. According to a statement from the State's Attorney for Baltimore County, Matthews was convicted Oct. 25 in Baltimore County Circuit Court of second-degree murder, 11 counts of first-degree assault and three counts of Use of a Handgun in the Commission of a Crime of Violence. The murder occurred Oct. 31, 2010, when Dequan Burks, 16, was with a group of teens for Halloween in Lansdowne. Teenager Allegedly Killed Man with Family Present

Tavon William Arthur Barnett, 19, faces charges of first- and second-degree murder.

A 19-year-old Baltimore man is charged with murder after police say he killed a man in an apartment where his family was present. Tavon William Arthur Barnett was arrested by the Baltimore Warrant Apprehension Task Force on Tuesday. He is charged with first- and second-degree murder for killing 29-year-old Terrence Seale. Barnett was at Seale’s apartment on Nov. 3 in the 1200 block of Linworth Avenue when they got into an argument in the kitchen and Barnett allegedly shot Seale multiple times in the torso and head, according to police. Seale’s wife and two small children were in the apartment at the time of the shooting. Gwynn Oak Man Gets Life for Woodlawn Murder

Antoine Reed was sentenced for a 2008 murder at Hunter's Crossing Apartments.

Antoine M. Reed Jr. was sentenced Tuesday in Baltimore County Circuit Court to life without parole in the 2008 shooting death of a Woodlawn apartment complex manager, according to a news release from the State's Attorney's office. Judge John J. Nagle III sentenced Reed, of Gwynn Oak, in the death of Milton Barnes, the manager of the Hunter's Crossing Apartments complex. Reed was convicted by a jury in August of first-degree murder and unlawful use of a handgun in the commission of a crime of violence . Barnes, "was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the head on June 24, 2008," according to the news release. Barnes reportedly "had been having difficulties with an employee." Baltimore Man Convicted in 2010 Halloween Triple Shooting

Sterlin Matthews, 19, of the 1800 block of N. Bentalou St. is found guilty of first-degree murder and other charges in Oct. 31, 2010, shooting of Dequan Burks and two others near the footbridge over the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.

A Baltimore County Circuit Court jury found Sterlin Matthews, 19, guilty of the murder of Dequan Burks, who was 16 when he and three others were shot on the night of Oct. 31, 2010, near the pedestrian footbridge over the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, according to a release issued by State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger. According to the release, Burks had been with a group of teenagers for Halloween in Lansdowne. The group crossed a footbridge into Baltimore Highlands when shots were fired by Matthews, the release said. Burks and the two others were shot near the 100-block of Twin Circle Way, according to police. When police arrived on the scene, they found Burks lying on the sidewalk. Updated: Hillendale Man Charged in Stabbing Death

Police said Vincent Forney has been charged with first-degree murder.

(Updated 3:40 p.m.)—A fight in a Hillendale home on Saturday night led to a man's death. According to police reports, Jamari Davon Mathis, of the 4000 block of Ridgecraft Road in northeast Baltimore, came to a home in the 1700 block of Forrest Avenue while Vincent Garnett Forney, 44 and also of the 1700 block of Forrest Avenue, was having dinner with a woman, the resident. According to police, Mathis, 38, and the woman got into an argument, and Forney intervened. During the scuffle, Forney allegedly stabbed Mathis with a large chef knife. Police were called around 10:25 p.m. Saturday on reports of a car that had gone off the road and into woods. There they found Mathis dead in his 2008 Honda Accord.
