Orioles Search for Ballboys, Ballgirls

An open tryout will be held Saturday at Camden Yards.

You may not be the next Manny Machado, but you may have a shot at being the next Baltimore Orioles ballboy or ballgirl. With less than a month to go until the home opener against the Minnesota Twins on Apr. 5, the team will hold an open tryout starting at noon Saturday at Camden Yards. The Orioles are looking for athletic men and women 18 or older for the 2013 season. Participants are asked to dress casually and bring their own baseball gloves, according to a news release. The team asks that ballboys and ballgirls be "personable, customer-service oriented and available to work the entire 2013 season," in addition to being able to field ground balls. Judges at the tryout will include Orioles officials, MASN broadcaster Jim Hunter, former …

VIDEO: O's Fans Say 'We Knew We Would Be Here'

Two Orioles season ticket holders tell the tale of a 15-year wait.

Debbie Dwyer and Rosie Cassidy have been patiently waiting. When the Rockville residents purchased an Orioles season-ticket plan 15 years ago, they were making an investment in the future.  They knew someday it would pay off. Little did they know it would be 15 years. And little did they know in spring training that it would be this year. Patch caught up with Dwyer and Cassidy in their sweet seats before Game 2 of the American League Division Series. They normally sit on the first base side, so they were adjusting to their new digs, but you can see in the video how thrilled they were to be at Oriole Park at Camden Yards to experience the club's first playoff series since 1997. The Orioles and Yankees met in Game 3 Wednesday night. TELL US…

The Birds I View

Get O's Tickets For Cheap—Or Free—This Week

The Orioles remain in the playoff hunt—how do you think the Birds will finish?

Hundreds of Orioles fans will see two baseball games Monday for just $4. That's a tremendous deal. Actually, they may be able to do even better this week. How's a playoff-caliber atmosphere sound at a reasonable price of $0? Yes, in the final homestand of the 2012 season in a city where a team can lock in on a playoff spot, fans can see free baseball. And no, we're not talking about the bonus baseball these Orioles seem to enjoy playing after nine innings are complete. Check it out. The Orioles offer a deal for a free ticket to all fans as a birthday gift. You don't have to take it on your birthday. You don't even have to take it on your birthday month. You can take it in September. Shows how unexpected this playoff run was, huh? Read all …

Orioles Winning In More Than Just The Boxscore

The Orioles remain in the playoff hunt—how do you think the Birds will finish?

The Orioles can’t seem to do wrong this September. No, I’m not talking about Buck Showalter’s magic with the lineup card or the bullpen—though they should just give him the manager of the year award with some of the Houdini-like maneuvers he’s made in 2012. I’m talking about the organization as a whole. Chime in! Start your own Local Voices column on the O's today! After years of appearing completely disconnected from their quickly-unplugging fan base, the Orioles seem to be making all the right moves as they near the end of an exciting season. A few things I’ve noticed from observing the team’s actions and being at the ballpark in recent weeks. That’s just three ways the Orioles have done exceedingly well surrounding this talented club …

You Tell Us: What’s Your Favorite O’s Memory from Memorial Stadium?

Patch wants readers to share their memories from when the Orioles called North Baltimore home.

The O’s are playing great baseball. They’re tied with the New York Yankees atop the American League East with just 20 games to play in the regular season. They've already won 80 games and need to win two more to assure a winning season. On Thursday afternoon they will try to sweep AL East rivals the Tampa Bay Rays downtown at Oriole Park at Camden Yards before heading to the West Coast for series with the Oakland A’s and Seattle Mariners.   Right now the city is buzzing with excitement about a team it has learned to forget by the All-Star break for the most part during the past 14 years of losing seasons. But when the O’s called Memorial Stadium and North Baltimore home that usually wasn’t the case. From the time the St. Louis Browns …

Face Behind the Voice: Meet Orioles' New Announcer

The Orioles open 2012 with their third public address announcer since 1974.

Ryan Wagner watched the first round of the Masters from his computer Thursday afternoon, briefly interjecting cheers for Tiger Woods during a phone call. "Come on, Tiger!," Wagner yelled occasionally. In many ways, his actions on the eve of his first day at a new job are indicative of the reasons why he landed the gig—his passion for sports and his effervescent personality. Opening Day is here in Baltimore, and when 3:05 p.m. rolls around, it will mean more to Wagner than an Orioles game against Minnesota (TV: MASN, WJZ; Radio: 1090 AM).  Wagner—a Baltimore native and a 2003 graduate of Edgewood High School—is the new voice of Oriole Park at Camden Yards, a job he earned ahead of a group of hundreds of hopefuls during a tryout period in …
