Community leaders say they welcome county regulations that will improve the commercials areas that are the gateways to both neighborhoods.
The Baltimore County Council Monday unanimously approved a bill that seeks to add a more formal review of redevelopment efforts in the Baynesville and Hillendale communities. The bill, sponsored by Councilman David Marks, revises the boundaries of the Loch Raven Commercial Revitalization District borders. The county Design Review Panel is required review nonresidential development plans in the Loch Raven-Baynesville and Loch Raven-Hillendale sections of the revitalization district. The Ridgeleigh Community Association will host a general membership meeting Tuesday to talk about the decaying Oakleigh Pet Cemetery.
A Tuesday night meeting at Johnny Dee's Lounge in Parkville will focus on an ailing local landmark. Oakleigh Pet Cemetery, located in the Ridgeleigh neighborhood, contains the graves of pets dating back to the 1920's, according to an email from the Ridgeleigh Community Association. The cemetery site, located at 8408 Oakleigh Road, has become a concern for the neighbors since falling into disrepair. "The grounds have become overgrown with weeds and brush, the headstones have been vandalized, debris and litter covers the graves, and the cemetery is fast becoming a refuge for juvenile delinquents and rodents," according to the email. Families: got plans for Saturday night? If not, grab your kids and head over to Ridgeleigh Park at 1770 White Oak Avenue in Parkville. The Ridgeleigh Community Association is planning to screen Dr. Seuss' The Lorax at 8 p.m. According to a flier for the event, admission will be free and refreshments will be available. Bill Deysher, president of Ridgeleigh Community Association, said that the choice of movie is no coincidence. "We recently did a community clean & green," Deysher said. "There's been a lot of interest in cleaning up and planting trees." Deysher also explained that the community association would be planting street trees in conjunction with BlueWater Baltimore during October and November.
