The Towson bars need to hire enough security, but they don't and rely on Baltimore County Police to be their defacto security. So they profit, while the taxpayers foot the bill and sacrifice those police being in our neighborhoods instead of responding to bar fights.   more ›

Charles Village Pub Won't Face Liquor Board

A Baltimore County police investigation found the restaurant's management acted appropriately in connection with a December shooting incident outside the location.

Charles Village Pub won't face disciplinary action from the Baltimore County Liquor Board after shots were fired outside the location in December. Francis Minsung Kang, 26, of the unit block of Brook Farm Court in Cockeysville was charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and use of a handgun in committing a felony after he allegedly fired five shots into a crowd outside the Towson restaurant on Dec. 16 during a dispute. Police said one man was treated for a minor gunshot wound after he was struck in the hand. Kang, a Cockeysville resident, was indicted of the charges on Tuesday, according to electronic court records. A trial date has not yet been set. After a more than month long investigation, Baltimore County …

Kamenetz Reaction to Shooting at CVP 'Consistent' But Restrained

Police chief says alleged shooter was licensed to carry a gun and "had half a load on."

A shooting outside the Charles Village Pub in Towson is not drawing the same ire from County Executive Kevin Kamenetz as a brawl outside another Towson watering hole attracted in September. "I have consistently stated that the owner of a liquor establishment, a bar, have the responsibility for their patrons after they leave the building," said Kamenetz. Francis Minsung Kang, 26, of the unit block of Brook Farm Court in Cockeysville was charged early Sunday with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and use of a handgun in committing a felony. Kang was leaving the Charles Village Pub when he allegedly threw a bottle of Gatorade at a woman and a fight ensued. He pulled out a handgun and fired five shots into a crowd, striking …

Kamenetz to Celebrate New CVP

The county executive will cut the ribbon on the rebuilt bar, which opened last month.

Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz will mark the reopening of Charles Village Pub in a ceremony Thursday. Kamenetz will be joined by the pub's owners—Rick Bielski and Eric and Melony Wagner—and Nancy Hafford, executive director of the Towson Chamber of Commerce, for the grand opening at 11:30 a.m. Thursday. The original Charles Village Pub, long a popular haunt for office workers, county employees, sports fans, families and college students, burned down last year. The new pub opened last month, boasting a roomier feel, new patio, revamped menu and expanded draft list.

Charles Village Pub to Reopen April 23

The popular downtown Towson bar is back and aiming to attract a diverse crowd.

After Charles Village Pub & Patio burned down last January, co-owner Melony Wagner was a holdout for bringing it back. Wagner and husband Eric (also a co-owner) first met in the second floor bar. More than 15 years later, they have three children and plenty of memories of the downtown Towson watering hole. A new CVP, she worried, would be like trying to replace the good times of the old bar. "I miss my dirty old building," she said. "You know, not to get all crazy and sentimental." Fifteen months after the fire, Wagner has a new building. After a slow start and several setbacks, Charles Village Pub is set to officially reopen on April 23, with an upgraded menu, new features, but the same classic feel. "Now that I have literally picked out …

Four of us visited CVP Friday after work. Beautiful place! The menu is really good, nice to have a HH menu with $5 appetizers. Suggestion: Do NOT put Old Bay on pub chips with blue cheese - way too salty. But you did not skimp on the blue cheese, which was great! Other than that - the food was delicious. Younger crowd came in VERY early - so not a good place to hang around when you are 45-older! …   more ›

Rain Marks New Beginning for Rebuilt CVP

The pub's owners are moving forward with a revamped restaurant.

Rain poured from the sky like the amber liquid once poured from Charles Village Pub's taps. Owner Rick Bielski didn't mind as he prepared to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Charles Village Pub on West Pennsylvania Avenue. The rebuilt bar will replace the former pub at the same Towson location, which was destroyed in a Jan. 29 fire. "It could be good karma, having rain during the groundbreaking," Bielski mused. He was joined by co-owners Melanie and Eric Wagner, County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, other local dignitaries, fire crews and many of his loyal employees and customers from over the years. "Like a college student the morning after a night at CVP," Kamenetz said, "the pub is rising from the ashes." Kamenetz noted that CVP—long …
