Q&A With Towson's One-Armed Golf Champion

Vince Biser didn't let cerebral palsy stop him from finding his own athletic stardom.

The next time you hit the links, try holding your golf club with one hand and see how it feels. Now give it a few swings. It isn't just a cool trick for Vince Biser. Born with cerebral palsy that affected his right side, the 24-year-old from Pinehurst is the three-time champion of the North American One-Armed Golfer Association and will go for a fourth title this week as the organization's championship comes to Towson. It tees off today at the Country Club of Maryland and runs through June 1. He sat down with Patch in between practice rounds. I have the use of just my left arm, I tried forehand / left handed clubs but got no distance. I changed to right handed clubs ie back hand but has no acuracy. So now, when I try again I will be using left handed putter and chip on clubs combined with right handed irons and woods to enable me to get off the tee. Limiting my bag to 14 clubs is fun.
